Last Notes npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Eagle Cap Wilderness: Day 2 This was my most insane day of backpacking. 26 miles over 17(!) hours and 5700 feet of gain. I met a guy Isaac in the lakes basin who was also going to attempt Eagle Cap. Thankfully, he had more experience than me. There were some sketchy parts but we made it fine. We descended down steep granite scree and then glissaded down a couple snowy slopes. Next, we went over Glacier Pass. Very fun! #Backpacking #Hiking #Oregon #PNW #LandscapePhotography #Outdoors #Mountains https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/751/020/724/709/081/original/35093514b6fa4e34.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/751/021/149/325/622/original/1514d0f61e653c6d.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/751/021/546/544/240/original/f1f9284c1d1a5775.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/751/021/941/347/969/original/71ed3a02700d40eb.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I did it! I summited Eagle Cap with the help of Isaac, who I met down in the lake basin. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Eagle Cap Wilderness: Day 1 I’m backpacking in the Wallowa Mountains for the first time and it’s as incredible as I imagined. Caught beautiful reflections at Ice Lake before the wind started. Climbed up to 9200 feet on the Matterhorn. Maybe it’s a healthy fear but I said nope to climbing near vertical scrambles and snow fields. Would love to learn how to safely someday. Heading towards Eagle Cap in the morning. #Backpacking #Hiking #Oregon #PNW #LandscapePhotography #Outdoors #Mountains https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/735/698/842/539/498/original/423b7ca27009cff8.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/735/730/599/347/089/original/ff2cee8e6ef9b398.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/735/694/841/587/351/original/b55a715baa35b221.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/735/696/265/177/629/original/c8c45b7aa295bd84.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Eagle Cap Wilderness: Day 1 I’m backpacking in the Wallowa Mountains for the first time and it’s as incredible as I imagined. I’m safe but I don’t love situations where one slip could be the end. I wasn’t able to complete a gap on the PCT so I decided my best course of action was to backtrack out of the wilderness vs take my chances on the PCT along Three Fingered Jack. Will come back when the snow melts. Great adventure though. #Backpacking #Hiking #Oregon #PNW #LandscapePhotography #Outdoors #Mountains https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/705/969/971/557/555/original/30a4a725762a22d3.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/705/971/388/620/808/original/d679cd1e72f93d87.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/705/972/476/005/033/original/4cd4ec8f4f2bc240.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/705/973/161/287/547/original/a874db492e6e4541.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe I hiked for several hours in snow storms and cold temps until I couldn’t keep my hands warm anymore. Retreated to my tent to get dry and warm up. I want to be clear that I had the gear to survive the situation but the reality was it was going to be a less than comfortable night then packing up an icy tent in the morning at freezing temps. I bailed when the first meaningful break in the weather happened in late afternoon. Great decision. npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Central Cascades: Part 2 Camped at the 2000 mile mark on the PCT. Mosquitoes were already bad but nice campsite at a pond. I should probably learn the lesson that the weather in the mountains is always going to be more extreme than expected. By Saturday morning I was already in survival mode so these photos are from Friday. The mountain views have been stunning. Seeing how close I can get to Mount Washington tomorrow. Maybe the weather will be totally fine but I’m prepared to bail if I’m not able to stay warm. #Backpacking #Hiking #PNW #Oregon #Outdoors #LandscapePhotography #Mountains https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/620/497/436/124/532/original/3d7c3bc23764c423.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/620/497/793/808/343/original/a33e6f232bb95c92.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/620/498/143/029/438/original/590b7c9d0f351297.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/620/498/621/042/705/original/418bb4f0bf07433d.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/586/570/915/777/832/original/eed3348e8e935648.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe There were no human or animal tracks in the snow when I was heading into the Indian Heaven Wilderness this morning but many possible lion and bear tracks on the way out a few hours later. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/583/595/521/952/841/original/8172f9cea613afe5.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe PCT Section H: Part 4 Didn’t make it as far as I imagined but I did encounter patches of snow starting around mile 2199. Went back a couple miles and camped near a spring for water. Should make it to Indian Heaven in the morning but will have to start heading south midday. I believe this is my first backpacking trip this year exploring an all new area and I’m loving it. I’m excited to see what the snow conditions are on the ground. That will determine what happens next. I don’t have an ice ax or know how to use one (yet) but I have micro spikes and the sense to turn around when it gets sketchy. 😁 Planning to explore Big Huckleberry Mountain and maybe Grassy Knoll if I can’t get too far north. #Backpacking #Hiking #PNW #WashingtonState #Outdoors #LandscapePhotography https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/575/216/865/815/027/original/17fff3f71c3b71ce.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/575/217/836/682/715/original/ae266f4d70e43a43.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/575/218/940/949/941/original/3d77dd28b73a1a52.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/575/219/847/447/195/original/c0a81eb4fd56a659.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe PCT Section H: Part 2 Enjoyed the section from Rock Creek to Wind River Road. Retreated back home Saturday evening to avoid an impending atmospheric river. Bunker Hill was the most surprising feature along this small section, wish I would’ve had the time to climb it. Current plan for this weekend is to continue north to see what the snow situation is like on the ground. #Backpacking #Hiking #PNW #WashingtonState #Outdoors #LandscapePhotography https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/558/467/000/327/058/original/6f048794a5ff5e8b.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/558/467/897/031/906/original/1637eef6a49ab0d8.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/558/468/680/962/669/original/5d6b0d63a75ec394.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/558/469/631/335/218/original/89589f7f4c20fefa.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe PCT Section H Backpacking After last weekend’s nightmare fuel, I’m in heaven once again. Hiked 2,100 feet up to a small mountain peak in the Cascades. No one around for miles. Views of Mount Hood and Adams outside my tent. Trees are blocking the light west wind. I packed out honey buns for breakfast. Couldn’t feel better. 😍🤣🏔️ #Backpacking #Hiking #WashingtonState #Outdoors #LandscapePhotography https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/539/083/423/236/483/original/6b42bfff60f4b3ad.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/539/084/871/971/111/original/258660822d987703.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/539/087/448/204/316/original/a6819bbc5d6b649c.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/539/088/369/705/237/original/c9177645cd43aa05.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Rogue River Trail Backpacking I have very mixed feelings about this adventure. While I had a good weekend, it was decidedly Type II fun. Plusses include wildflowers and beautiful views. Minuses include monotonous ups and downs, dangerous landslide traverses, and poison oak absolutely everywhere. I’m not sure yet if I’m breaking out or not. I found myself wishing I was rafting the river instead. #Backpacking #PNW #Oregon #Photography #Hiking #Walking #Nature #Outdoors #LandscapePhotography https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/520/628/775/991/585/original/9388422a55cb1c75.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/520/629/233/732/224/original/665e6950a84b0743.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/520/629/660/312/123/original/4fb2a02e664a231d.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/520/630/356/745/236/original/0174f13e5018d7a5.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe McKenzie River Trail: Part 3 I received word via satellite that Sand Mountain has great views of the surrounding volcanos. Decided to take a last minute 15-mile side trip. First time I’ve climbed a snowy mountain but it wasn’t too hard with micro spikes. Snow was still frozen from overnight. I felt like I was on the top of the world, no one around for miles. It’s amazing we can do this. #Backpacking #PNW #Oregon #Photography #Hiking #Walking #Nature #Outdoors #LandscapePhotography https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/473/553/505/667/817/original/7b7967875da64811.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/473/554/394/799/112/original/1745ddc9d7f0e48a.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/473/554/849/173/453/original/b2e784b24fcfa84f.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/473/555/265/250/069/original/f50e750c84922ea7.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe #SilentSunday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/470/321/755/350/193/original/c566eeb4110d0133.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Here is a preview of the views I found up on Sand Mountain. https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/462/638/503/716/378/original/2758405aae94e8ed.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe McKenzie River Trail: Part 2 I tagged the end of the trail this morning. One of my goals this summer is to backpack near the volcano. I fell in love with it on the peak of Old Snowy. If you didn’t know it’s mid-May you would think it’s summer. I had a great time meeting and camping with [@intrepidhero](https://vmst.io/@intrepidhero ). We didn’t see the aurora per se but we saw a late night greenish sky. Felt lighter out. #Backpacking #PNW #WashingtonState #Photography #Hiking #Walking #Nature #Outdoors #LandscapePhotography https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/423/720/259/020/732/original/8822247e3ffb8aa7.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/423/729/433/529/855/original/5f6481414636feca.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/423/735/907/058/513/original/490ce9b2d861ddfa.jpeg https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/423/743/018/912/145/original/c80c84b1e17d1484.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Pacific Crest Trail: Part 1 Mount Hood looks stunning from up here on Table Mountain. I was informed by a frankly terrified-looking day hiker that black bears were seen up here last night. I’m proceeding with caution and will update you if I encounter them. 🐻🗻☀️ #Backpacking #PNW #WashingtonState #Photography #Hiking #Walking #Nature #Outdoors #LandscapePhotography https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/417/129/714/288/027/original/9dc8dd53fd602489.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe For #TentViewTuesday here is a photo of my campsite along the Wilson River Trail from a couple weeks ago. There was a curious pile of wood directly on the trail. Not sure what that was about. Thinking of naming this campsite Kamikaze Corner after the famous Portland intersection where several streets meet (multiple old forest roads lead here along with the trail). https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/362/504/785/202/873/original/04f8c0dd40ba0ff6.jpeg npub1e7waa8qp5ggdvj5e3lrwpthmdxczva3hq90nks4mw2k5vrjcu3tsc0kdr3 Andrew Briscoe Large moss covered tree in morning sunlight. #ThickTrunkTuesday https://files.mastodon.social/media_attachments/files/112/201/840/451/942/435/original/8f2087aba4867f6c.jpeg
