Love all the talk of future Coldcard features in this episode, but the one I want the most is still missing from the list. The ability to export a secure note which has been encrypted with deterministic entropy so it can be decrypted on any Coldcard with the same seed & passphrase. This would be huge for inheritance planning.

@nprofile…3zem when trying to pay for a phone number, I get “error creating order” regardless of which service or country I chose. Is there a known outage currently? Has been like this for at least 8 hours (unsure how long as I haven’t used the service for a few weeks prior).

Thanks for thinking through encrypted note export with the team. The ability to use a different BIP-39 passphrase for your note-decrypting wallet vs. your main wallet, but still use the same SeedXOR backups, would be very useful.

In response to SaltyCrayon’s boost, a reminder that if a Podcasting app were to add NWC, you’d be able to connect to at least 15 different wallets, some custodial, some non custodial, plenty that adhere to KISS. You don’t need to interact with Nostr to connect a wallet via NWC. The solution exists.

Poll: Gauging interest in a proposed Coldcard feature
## 🔍 Background Context
From an inheritance planning perspective, assume you already have a geographical distribution of seed phrases and passphrases which would allow a family member to recover funds. Assume multisig, Seed XOR, a combination, or something similar. The specifics are irrelevant to this thought experiment, just assume effort has already been put in to distribute backup information for an inheritance-based recovery plan.
## 💡 Proposed Feature
It would be great to be able to pass along additional encrypted notes that could be decrypted with one of Coldcard's BIP-85 deterministic passwords. This way, in a situation where a family member has recovered the setup, they could load the additional encrypted note(s) into their Coldcard and read them. Or just decrypt the note(s) on their computer by entering the BIP-85 password (BIP-85 password #5 for example).
## 📝 Current Implementation
Currently Coldcard Q does allow for typing notes on device and encrypting them. However, exporting these in encrypted form means generating a new set of backup words. This means every time you'd want to add to, or alter your inheritance information (add a new 2FA secret, alter an instruction, etc.), you now have a new set of words that that needs backing up. Being able to encrypt these using BIP-85 determinist entropy from the existing seed phrase / passphase combination that is already geographically distributed would be a huge improvement.

In Nostur, click your profile picture, then click feeds (image 1). You’ll see the menu in image 2. You can also make custom feeds here. They’ll then show up on the top as seen in image 3. If you hit settings while viewing any of the feeds, you can change the time preferences for them.

Is there a technical limitation that prevents Coldcard Q from being able to type a note, and export it encrypted with a deterministic encryption key, so that it can only be decrypted on another Q with the same seed AND same passphrase? Thanks!

Yea, I found that out unfortunately. Also, if you back up the full device, not only are you given a new 12 words to protect, but if you were previously using a passphrase, now your device backup has the passphrase derived wallet as the main seed (i.e no longer passphrase protected), which is unfortunate. I’d love a way to use deterministic entropy to export encrypted secure notes (bring the note back to the coldcard and it can be decrypted only if you’re in the right wallet), but it seems that’s not currently possible. Wasn’t able to get an answer from support if it’s a technical limitation or just a design choice.

Is there a brief summary of what the fees will be for the paid plan? What’s the fee on top of the actual on chain fee for channel opening? Is the fee for initial channel opening the same for future just in time liquidity channel openings? Fee for outgoing lightning transactions, fee for incoming lightning transactions? The thing that held me back from using them, was wanting to pay the fee for the user I was sending the gift to. If I was giving them a $30 usd equivalent gift, I’d want their balance after claimed to be ~$30 usd. I suppose ecash based will fix that?

AppVerifier to verify the authenticity of the APKs you download with Obtainium. You can either verify the public key hash of the signing certificate with some other source (ideally the app developer from a source other than GitHub where you downloaded the APK) or from AllVerifier’s database which will tell you if you’re getting the same hash others have gotten previously. https://github.com/soupslurpr/AppVerifier

Going back through some of these posts and testing out ZapplePay (https://www.zapplepay.com) with Mutiny. Seems to be working great. One main limitation of iOS Nostr clients is they can zap profiles, but usually not individual posts (as the former is safer from the standpoint of Apple’s terms of service and Apple not getting their massive 30% cut). ZapplePay is a really nice workaround. You still have to open Mutiny for them all to send, but, if you have them set to auto approve (up to a certain pre-set daily budget), all zaps get sent with zero clicks the next time you open your wallet. For something which is always online, such as a custodial wallet like Alby, or your own node, then the zaps get sent immediately.

I left the meetup wanting to find a Nostr client which 1) has groups so I could have a tab just for local Nostr follows and 2) has the ability to sign up for alerts for any post by a given user. Nostur (https://nostur.com) is the first app I found that has both of those things already. Liking it a lot. Seems it is iOS only though. Nostr wallet connect is great for letting apps pull sats from Alby. It would also be great if I could use NWC to add funds to Alby in other situations. Normally I top up Alby manually, but if I had it set to where my balance got below a certain level, auto topping off from another NWC capable source would be really nice.

Perhaps a dumb question, but how does one navigate to n/satellite ? https://satellite.earth/n/satellite doesn’t seem to do the trick. Searching for satellite or n/satellite doesn’t pull up the community because they’re not valid names or npubs. Clicking the + button in communities pulls up the option to create a new community, not follow a current one.

Gas (in the US at least) is pretty highly subsidized. Something like an estimated $12+ dollars per gallon without subsidies (current average gas price $3.41). There are plenty of other variables to compare as well, but it’s not like only EVs are being subsidized. Whether or not any of these subsidies are funds well spent or which subsides (gas vs EV vehicles) have a better economic return is another question entirely (and a good one at that).

I know that LNbits will run on a c-lightning node, and that LNbits has support for lndhub. Despite lnd in the name, do you know if the lndhub plug-in still works (works as in can be connected to remotely) on lnbits if it is funded by a c-lightning node and not a LND node?

Ah, I normally scroll through ‘posts’ on the home tab in Damus. Once I open a note all the zaps show up, and then they show up on the ‘posts’ screen after that. I should be opening more notes up to see the zap count it seems. Good to know.

Just used BlueWallet (linked to my GetAlby wallet) and I see the zap I sent show up through Damus. Very cool. Haven’t seen many notes with zap counts and amounts displayed yet.

I used https://nostr.info/relays/ to pick relays once and haven’t had an issue since. I filtered by “sent us many events without dropping”, and skipped the relays which seemed to be getting overrun with events. Basically picked those near the high end of incoming event rate but stopped short of the outliers. However, I’m sure many improvements to picking relays will come. I see some relays are adding functionality through query parameters, when you add the relay, you can include your npub in the websocket address and then only see notes from people you follow and people they follow. Some relays you add will also send your notes to other popular relays. Seems like there is a lot of experimentation going on currently, and a lot of new functionality will become standard practice soon enough.

Our only relays in common are two of the default relays Damus suggests. I’ve found much more stable performance once I added additional relays. I think those that are auto suggested by Damus get slammed by new users.
