yeah - I think Nostr is a way to disconnect. You decide what you want to see. So for me it's a way of disconnecting. I thought I could control what I could see on the centralised apps but they give you the feed that is dictated by the highest bidder - whether that's ads, or a 'We think you'll like this' type of content.

During these 21 Days, I've noticed that I can focus more on my immediate surroundings.
By consistently posting on Nostr and avoiding platforms like X, LinkedIn, and Instagram, I've been able to step outside the bubble. This break from centralized platforms has helped me realize that the noise they generate doesn't truly impact my daily life.
The answer is clear: it doesn't. Most posts on these platforms are driven by agendas, aimed at influencing how people think and behave.
As someone from the UK, I've seen how these platforms amplify the government's power trips, like snooping on and arresting citizens for minor reasons.
There's a simple solution: disconnect from social media. Focus on your family. Spend time in the real world. People will start to understand that they can't be monitored or spied on if they're not using these platforms.

Here's how a post usually goes on social media with a centralised algorithm.
- Have great 'hook', something controversial like 'why something doesn't work'.
- offer a better alternative, normally something the person posting has invested interest in for their own gain or to position themselves as an expert to build trust to leverage later on.
- Tag all the other people on that platform who have built up trust already and are actual experts - to reaffirm the posters 'expertise', leveraging their trust.
- At the end of the post ask everybody to 'like,share, and comment' to manipulate the algorithm 👀 for their own gain.
-When confronted by the idea they've posted about... become ultra defensive and use words like 'No, you're wrong' without considering the pros and cons of the response.

The craziest thing happened. I made a post on Nostr.
I was paid for the value offered, direct to my wallet with sats.
I then used some of those sats to pay for the food of some sheep in Czech Republic (Tanglesheep) 838 sats worth.
I do this to show people the power of the Lightning Network. Now I'm using it to show people the power of Nostr too.

It's not struggling. It's a time preference thing. The same argument has been talked about Bitcoin. "It's old tech" "It's too slow" "There's faster versions that do better things"
For me Nostr is doing a job and doing it well. This is the problem with transitioning from a consumerist economy to a sound money economy. The mindset is "now, now, now" and that doesn't build quality - it builds quantity. Which will eventually offer nothing productive, and break society.

Today I woke up, got a warm shower. Afterwards I went downstairs and kissed my kids on their foreheads and ruffled up my dogs fur. I'm now stood bare feet on grass writing this. My mind is relaxed for this first time in.. I can't remember.
What I did not do was jump in a pool filled with ice, snort two grams of chia seeds, boil fifteen eggs while doing 8,000 press ups. Then once my eggs are boiled, flexing 4 new yoga posses and reading 20 pages of a book I'm not interested in reading from an author who is the 1,000th author of an Amazon best seller that I've read. I'm not playing a piano with my toes or painting a masterpiece out of tomato ketchup. Nor am I looking for a course to buy that will make me rich in the next 9 minutes.
I'm not sure how to put it in words. Although, it feels like (what I can only assume) an addict would feel like after stopping drugs. I've had this pent up shell of anxiety consuming my body and soul. And it's like the shell has started cracking and breaking away. My mind is relaxed and so is my daily process since I deleted all the other social media apps.

On a centralised algorithm, you are just a number. A piece of data waiting to be harvested and abused, like an employee inside a fiat economy. Their time and energy being stolen from them by inflation and taxes. The system wins.
The tax and inflation of a central algorithm is their attention. It zaps their time and energy away from them in return for less than they had before. The system wins.
Nostr zaps that energy back into you with real content. And rewards the real content with hard money. Everybody wins.

For example, if I make a post here, I'm never thinking: "will the algorithm like what I'm about to post" or "does it meet the right criteria to be pushed further into the feeds of others"
I'm thinking as an individual. There's real and productive power in that.

Ofc but the control isn't centralised that's the big factor.
I'd say centralised platforms are extremely bad for privacy because of the lack of control the user has with their own data. Plus KYC etc.
To say Nostr is 'extremely' bad for privacy is difficult for me to comprehend at this point because 1. Extreme is a strong word I'd certainly appropriate towards centralised platforms and 2. I don't know enough about Nostr yet - other than I can access it with a private key that as far as I'm aware - only I can verify access with - that's huge for my privacy.
This doesn't land it in the 'extremely' bad for privacy category for me. It's such a strong word to use.

Nostr isn’t the finished product when it comes to privacy yet, and that much is clear. For example, clients like Primal still see your IP address, and some available wallets require KYC. There may be other privacy concerns I’m not yet aware of.
We’re seeing an increasing trend where our digital identities are tied to everything we do in our daily lives. This is becoming more dangerous with each passing day.
As an Englishman living in the UK, I’m not surprised that the police are using social media as an entrapment tool, further encroaching on privacy. It’s nothing new. The current issue is that they’re leveraging the murder of children to push their agenda even further, twisting the narrative as if it’s about race—when in reality, it’s about one human taking the lives of others. When people voice their opinions about it, they’re painted as the problem.
You can’t walk 100 meters in an urban area of the UK without being caught on CCTV. People are scared to talk to each other openly. Everyone has become a zombie to their phone. At the airport, your dignity is stripped away in the name of movement. This invasion of privacy extends to supermarkets, bus stations, and even charity shops. We’re far from where we should be—privacy for UK citizens is nearly gone. The Orwellian state is here. We live in fear—fear of wrong think, both in real life and online.
Nostr is my white pill. It brings me hope. It’s not perfect, but it’s a resource no other platform offers. My identity isn’t directly linked to me unless I choose it to be. I can post without fear of censorship. I can express information and opinions without facing severe repercussions. It gives me hope that one day, my children might be able to truly live free.

Did you see what https://www.tanglesheep.com/ are doing to feed their sheep? It's a pretty cool way to teach people how the Lightning Network works - and it's value. I know your point about this being apart of a Bitcoin circular economy is valid here - although we are still so early. Building these small communities are what will create a stable bitcoin economy.
Cap gains isn't going anywhere anytime soon. I don't see a way around that. Except for being illiquid. Playing the long game and Staying Humble, Stacking Sats.

One thing I’ve noticed is the lack of conversation on Nostr about the power of Zaps for local businesses. I’m not talking about online stores—I mean mom-and-pop shops like your local grocery or barber. Not the “buy my online course” type.
For example, Instagram is packed with content from local businesses showcasing their shops, with users commenting, liking, and sharing if it’s good. But Instagram’s primary goal is to harvest data and trap users in its algorithm. Nostr offers something better: the power of interaction PLUS the ability to tip these businesses. That’s invaluable.
The use case is clear: send Zaps to local businesses and support the community by engaging with their content.
However, there are a few obvious challenges that I believe can be resolved with time:
Niche Usage: Bitcoin and Lightning are still early in their adoption, and Nostr is even more niche. (Is “nicher” a word? Let’s make it one!)
Education: Bitcoin and Lightning are still on their educational journey, mainly driven by algorithm-driven platforms. Nostr, on the other hand, is being propelled by the ultimate word-of-mouth machine. That’s incredible to think about.
Volatility: This is a big hurdle for small businesses using Bitcoin. Convincing them to accept small transactions in a “volatile” currency is a tough sell. Plus, the infrastructure for seamless interoperability is still developing—we’re just so early.
Nostr represents freedom, self-sovereignty, and individualism—the very reasons these small businesses exist in the first place. They crave the freedom of working outside traditional employment, being individuals, and giving back to their local community - with a sense of purpose. But the system is rigged, and running a small business often becomes just another job, with extra responsibility.
I believe Nostr has the potential to keep these small businesses motivated and enthusiastic about their journey.

The past 7 days I've posted using the Primal client because I didn't realise their was another decent app for posting on Nostr.
Today's post is from Amethyst. I noticed on Primal that my feed is backed up with the same faces everyday and I just thought this was because Nostr was new and the same faces consistently posted. Can I change this?
I'm on Amethyst and the feed is filled with the people I follow - different faces though. Not just the 'big Nostr Names'. What's different? That's my only criticism on the change.
The fact that I can take my digital footprint and move it from one client to another is AWESOME. All of my follows, my followers, my posts, my profile picture, my zaps. EVERYTHING. And zero kyc. That's the big deal for me. So cool.
What other clients can I play around on with an Android?

Is it possible for a Nostr client to claim themselves to be decentralised but have centralised servers?
This was brought to my attention yesterday. If it was the case then could that client have access to your/my nsec too?
One of my main concerns with Bitcoin for example is newbies are coming into the space thinking they're buying an ETF and have full exposure to Bitcoin. When in reality they're buying an IOU of an IOU with Fiat, in return for Fiat. The key holder owns the Bitcoin.
The reason I'm on here is because I 'can't be cancelled' and not 'a slave to the algorithm'. Although if the servers are centralised and I'm unable to tell the difference - it begs the question...What's the point?

Did anybody else have problems with Primal yesterday? It was so buggy for me.
I had someone tell me they tried zapping but it wasn't working. The feed wasn't loading. Notifications weren't loading.
I'm trying to stay optimistic. Although, the launch of our latest magazine yesterday seen it's worse first day since we started - in terms of metrics!
But we made bank (200 sats) for the first time EVER on release day. We have never made a single penny on release day. So making ~$0.11 is MAJOR.
