So while I think the US constitution was great, what is written on a piece of paper doesn't matter if it isn't followed. And government officials never seem to get in trouble for violating the constitution; they seem to have a lot more immunity than the "qualified" immunity they are legally entitled to.
Satoshi Nakamoto wanted an alternative to the fiat financial system, which is broken and certainly the cause of much, if not almost all, of the suffering in the world today. To achieve that, he first built an alternative.
Building first is always the path. But to some, destroying is easier.
If you run lnd you and you're on the latest version you can now have pretty good receiver privacy with:
lncli addinvoice --blind
* also lnproxy now supports wrapping bolt 11 invoices with blinded paths
I think it should be possible, but some wallets cannot pay to blinded bolt 11 invoices
Further digging, shows that there is definitely a lightning node relaying in between:
https://github.com/supertestnet/weld
I'm bad at advertising stuff I build because I never feel like I'm done with it but that's just stupid. So, if #strfry relay operators need a write policy plugin, check out my write policy plugin Chief.
https://github.com/0xtrr/chief
If it's because your node is down it's not really a stuck payment
bolt 11 blinded paths are amazing
#nevent1q…2l84
Nothing has 100% success on lightning 😅
But your point is very good. Adding an lnproxy shunt to your route will decrease the success rate significantly. But you just need to keep trying / play with the routing fees and it will work eventually. Plus, no custodial risk.
Very cool!
Does anyone know if there an explainer for how this works somwhere?
#nevent1q…a9zm
Blinded paths are the solution to lightning receiver privacy, but today many wallets can't pay bolt12 offers or bolt11 invoices with blinded paths.
If you're running lnd you can use `lncli addinvoice 1000 --blind` then wrap the invoice with lnproxy and get a private invoice that any wallet can pay.
I need to figure out lndk to make this possible for bolt12 offers too..
@npub1yxp…399s very curious about this:
https://github.com/supertestnet/papa-swap
Already seeing some people use the new extremely private, and fully compatible, lightning network receive flow enabled by blinded paths:
- create bolt11 invoice with blinded paths `lncli addinvoice --blind 1000`
- wrap it with lnproxy to get a standard bolt11 invoice payable by any lightning wallet
- use the wrappped invoice to receive
The payer pays the lnproxy relay and the relay trustlessly forwards the apyment to you but never learns your node id.
Don’t turn away. Congo needs the world to pay attention.

So I listened to this debate on Ukraine https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0orsI3rQ0Mw and I had a number of thoughts.
The first is that Edward Lucas' thinking is predicated on a number of "facts" which I don't think he has any the evidence required to know whether they are facts or not. These include that Ukrainians are fighting against initial overwhelming odds with immense bravery and resiliance. I think this perception is curated by Western government and media, and isn't reflective of the truth on the ground. We know many of the heroic stories were fake. Second he thinks Ukrainians want what Westerner's want. But there are many Ukrainians and they don't all want the same thing. Whether Ukranians fight is mainly up to their leadership, the soldiers don't really have a choice.
But my biggest shock was Lucas' solution. He wants to bring in long range missiles to attack Russia's supply line on Russian territory. If you recall what Russia said when they first entered Ukraine, they said that NATO bases were setting up long range missile sites which could be converted into nuclear tipped missiles and reach Moscow faster than Moscow could react, and he had to eliminate those to restore the balance of power (he also said other things about Nazis, biolabs, and Russian speakers in the Donbass). If the West feeds long-range missiles to Ukraine and Russia cannot destroy them with conventional means, Russia will use tactical nukes. Because those missiles threaten the heart of Russia and Russia can't allow that.

What a shite title. While it's funny AF, it's entirely incorrect or at least has nothing to do with the actual arrest. The following is at the very bottom of the article:
"It's unclear whether these alleged searches contributed directly to Council's eventual arrest".
He went to an AT&T store with a fake ID card with his picture and the name of the owner of the phone number and actually got the sim swapped to his own phone. Then after the attack, he actually returned the phone to the store 😂
My guess is that they just traced the IMEI number, figured out where it was sold and then went and got it to extract whatever was on the harddrive.

I believe (and I'm wliling to be corrected here) that the US intelligence agencies are legally allowed to, and are directed to, perform psyops against US citizens. And not in a targetted way, but via the news media. I believe the justice department's choices of who to prosecute are largely politicial now. I believe the FBI's decisions are largely political now. I suspect that the democratic administration is aiming the tools of government at republican or republican-leaning targets. I suspect Biden left military equipment in Afghanistan in order to sell it and launder the money. I suspect that is also part of the reason for the continued war in Ukraine (which would have been at a peace deal by now if not). I'm almost certain the US blew up the nord stream 2.
Anyhow, I'm glad I moved. I don't know how it will play out, but people in that country who still believe in it have a hell of a lot of work to do.
When a society has a low enough level of corruption, the institutions can handle most serious fraud and malfeasance and keep it in check. Some things slip through, but in general law and order prevail. New Zealand was ranked the 2nd least corrupt in the world, and while I disagree vehemently with some things the government has done politically, I concur that it has very low corruption. The people too do the "right" thing, returning lost wallets, offering to give people a ride in the rain, etc.
I'm worried that my country of birth, the USA, is getting close to a tipping point where the institutions that are supposed to keep corruption in check are so corrupt themselves that that country can't be easily salvaged. Trust is easy to lose, very hard to gain back. Granted, most countries around the world are more corrupt, but for this to be happening to my home country really bothers me.
I don't have any opinions because I never saw a DVM working and I'm not aware of that NIP and couldn't easily find it now.
With some of the controversial things I'm planning to say, I expect some will unfollow this acount and I take no offense.
If anybody follows me, tag me and I will follow you back [while reserving the right to unfollow you if you turn out to be annoying 😁] I'm not following anybody yet since this account is brand new.
I think that AIs that can write code will be used by programmers, and will replace none. AIs aren't human. They aren't smart or imaginative or creative. They are very, very, utilitarian. Programmers, on the other hand, must be able to interpret the needs of their users and creatively deal with all the horrible little details that their users don't want to think about.
Too many people think global warming is caused by the greenhouse effect. It's not. I concur with this: CO2 -> ... .... ... -> Global warming. But those ellipses are not the greenhouse effect. If you don't believe me, look up "stratispheric cooling"
