My short interview with Yle News. Just doing my small part to prove that for us, there’s no such thing as bad weather, just good infrastructure and excellent maintenance 👌

‪It is rather beautiful here in Oulu 🇫🇮, right now. Absolutely no filters needed at all 🤌
-20°C, wind chill -28°C.
This is one of our main cycling and walking routes (#8) and here we have a 5 km stretch with ZERO at-grade crossings with motor traffic. I repeat, it's physically impossible to meet any motor traffic here. So it is very peaceful, safe and comfortable to ride and walk completely uninterrupted. Just bliss.

I'm often asked what do I wear on the cooler days when cycling. The correct answer is of course what ever the heck you want, as long as it makes you go outside. But I also personally like to keep it as simple as possible. Go outside and enjoy! 😊

The real-time public snow plowing & maintenance map for main bicycle paths in Oulu. Of course you shouldn't even need one, since you can always count on paths being maintained anyway, but it's still a nice little thing to have 👌

First snowfall of the winter, which means also the first snow plows of the winter. On bike & foot paths, of course. Tomorrow's forecast is full of rain and all this snow will probably be gone very soon, but of course, we can't wait for that here in Oulu 🇫🇮 👌☃️🚲🚶❄️

Tom: "I have long dreamed of Pekka Tahkola sitting in a box bike and playing while I pedal and sing. Absolutely amazing! The Maestro coped wonderfully with the cramped conditions of the box and the cold biting his fingers."
And the world is a little more fun again. Cycling is such a joyful thing ❤️🚲

Starting my trip towards Estonia, to speak at a conference, and traveling there of course at least by bike and train. Well maintained bike paths after the night's snow dump, and lots of space at 07:30 am on a quiet Sunday morning 👌

1) Those who cycle at least 2,5 h/wk, had an average of 4,8 sick leave days per year. The national average is 13d/y. The difference is very, very significant. This means that an active winter cyclist saves the society an average of 2800 €/year in less sick leave days alone. 2/

Conducted a survey (n=1700) in Finland about people who cycle (also) in the winter. I translated some of the key findings below. For example the differnce in sick leave days is very, very significant 🧵 1/

1000 out of 1200 kids in this school in #Oulu, #Finland, arrive by #bicycle, even in winter. 100-150 walk, rest by ski, kicksleds and car. This day it was -17°C, some days it can be colder than -30°C.
Note that this is only one of the four bicycle parking areas of this school 🤗
