The “AI” race is mostly just about securing compute for the US. It’s a chip war. Generative AI is a parlor trick to get the most hash rate possible on US soil. That compute is then used to mine bitcoin or secure another proof of work digital currency. You don’t mint globally. You have reputable mints with understood purities of metals in the coins. The most successful mints are state mints (US coins, Canadian coins, British Coins) because the reputation of the people and their ability to trade is tied to the purity of their coins. Private mints don’t get the same traction but can still compete largely for reserve status rather than daily trade.
This works best when you have high trust societies with enforced borders. (This has been a challenge over the past twenty years globally. Some may say this is being done by design.) Within those borders, counterfeiting is punished.
You’re asking questions like “how will this work” when commerce is and was conducted in this fashion for long periods of time.
Key management for crypto is ridiculous. The attack surface is global. Theft can’t even be prosecuted due to the coin mixers everyone here praises. The result is everyone is just a “zapper” with off chain “trust me bro” transactions facilitated by Strike.

Precious metals already scaled globally as coins. They also scaled as gold certificates aka US dollars. This was prior to being taken off the gold standard. It was so powerful it became the petro dollar and used globally for trade.

The victims of stolen funds are the people who had their funds stolen. That is who the victim is. Coin mixers don’t “allow people to transact,” they hide stolen funds. That is what it is used for.
If you create code to meltdown a nuclear reactor or kill people in cars, you’re responsible to the victims. If you create money laundering software, you’re responsible to the victims.

If you think tornado cash is an AR 15, you also have no idea how it works. So like, where in tornado cash has physical bullets, a barrel, a stock, a chamber, a trigger?
My example is specific. Obfuscating stolen funds. Using whatever means available to do it.
More often than not, I just see the same tired arguments over and over. People stretch logic when it suits them and ignore common sense when it doesn’t.
The result we have is millions of people have been BURNED by bitcoin thanks to funds obfuscation. The victims don’t care what technically happened to achieve funds obfuscation, they care they were defrauded. Don’t expect them to get “orange pilled” anytime soon when word on the street is you have a chance of ruining your life by touching it.

A lot of it is just straight up scams. Elderly are often victims.
We could do a better analogy. Someone opening up hundreds of shell companies and accounts and funneling funds to hide the proceeds from stolen debit and credit cards.
And yeah I’d probably hold the person liable that was helping a criminal establish the infrastructure to launder ill gotten gains.

This is actually a facepalm on how corrupt and full of scams the entire bitcoin space is. You’ve got old and young people alike losing massive portions of their wealth due to scams and hacks. Then you see people blaming victims for “being dumb” and cheering on coin mixers for enabling it. THEN there’s so many fake recovery programs people are victimized AGAIN. It’s such a scammy shit show that even people in the legal space are bamboozled.
This isn’t the flex you think it is. Negative public sentiment against evil people pretending to be good people is growing. It’s not the government that is fed up. It’s everyday people you are expecting to get “orange pilled.” If you or a loved one loses a 5 or 6 figure amount, why would you ever touch bitcoin again?
It’s not just courts and their processes that you’re accountable to. When you “write code,” you’re accountable to everyone you hurt in the process. You can claim you aren’t legally, morally, whatever. People just remember what happened to them and afterwards want nothing to do with bitcoin. You guys are doing a shit job at self regulation. Bitcoin just shows how evil people can be when they’re safe behind a computer and not risking physical and legal harm. It really just highlights a darker side to humanity.
You can also thank bitcoin mixers for every spam text and call you get. You can thank them for enabling a global, multi billion dollar a year criminal industry we all have to shield ourselves from. Also, stolen funds almost always move in completely unnatural ways and there’s only a few wallets that most scammers use. Floating the idea that Tornado cash isn’t behind a big portion of this is just willful ignorance.
“Trustless and permissionless” are perhaps the funniest words used to describe the mechanics of bitcoin, because there is no trust and funds are taken without permission.
