He absolutely loves the heavier feel, the heavy knurling and the throw-it-in-a bag bomb proof construction. The Staedtler Mars Technicolor 789C falls in the same category for me too. It just feels right in the hand. Their Graphite 925-35 is one of my preferred options for layout work. I supplement my physical notes with markdown notes captured in Obsidian (on Mac, PC and iPhone).
