I'm experimenting with WebMCP in earthly.city - implementation was trivial because all the map tools were already exposed via an internal command bus that delegates actions from either the AI chat or the tool bar to the edit state and map.
I gave Astra a few reference images and instructed it to draw me an ethno cultural map of the Middle East and this is the result:
https://blossom.primal.net/4a46f43ae0f573792bed70477f00c9f498202656193be3c1450384925dd92840.jpg
Look at the level of detail and the amount of data! It's all labeled property. The description is perfect and all the features have meta data. I'm absolutely SHOCKED how good this is.

2026-09-29 15:37:14 GMT

I implemented a CRUD app in rust + actix and some rust html rendering library just to check how Astra would perform and what the project structure would look like. It one shorted it and the app looked great. Im seriously considering ditching the bloated web frameworks we all used and use SSR rust from now on. Maybe I will even rewrite one of my existing projects. Because what's the point?

The fresh canon meat will be drafted via it's debts.
The general public will have 4 choices:
- enlist in a satanic, for-profit war and die
- pay of the the debt to avoid being drafted (this will be increasingly difficult because, coincidentally, interest rates will experience an unprecedented rise as the war drums beat louder)
- risk exclusion from the financial system and therefore from civil society
- adopt #Bitcoin

On every join, I take the latest map data, re-encrypt it for the new MLS group state, and sends it as a signed checkpoint. This gives new members the current map without exposing earlier private history. Not sure how this scales but I think private groups don't need to talk about big datasets.

Absolutely. You could either publish them as "sightings" or as a single dataset with a point for each photo.

Yes but it is not compatible with the standard clients because of a slightly different MLS usage. In short there is friction between canonical map data in the group and late joiners (they need to see datasets drawn before they joined). So you can only join via earthly: https://earthly.city/privategroup/0a7d7d47-07ea-4ca9-a00d-34ca3d2dcab9?private-invite=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

🌍 Earthly is becoming much more than a web map.
Over the past few weeks, we have made a big step towards an open geographic workspace that can be used on the web, installed on your devices, shared privately, and carried into places without reliable internet.
The most important new features are:
🧭 A new tour page
📱 The Earthly app
🔒 Private groups — public alpha
🏕️ Offline-capable Field sessions
✨ A massively improved AI map editor
🧭 A new tour page
The new Earthly tour introduces the project through real workflows: drafting operational maps, asking spatial questions, collaborating across devices, publishing map-backed stories, and drawing offline from a phone.
Take the tour to get a better understanding of Earthly, its features, and its capabilities:
https://earthly.city/tour
📱 Earthly is now an app
The Android app contains the complete Earthly workspace, adapted for touch, plus capabilities browsers cannot reliably provide: an embedded local node, Nostr relay, #Blossom server, saved offline regions, nearby Field sessions, and a durable delivery queue. All built on #nostr technology.
Android on Zapstore:
https://zapstore.dev/apps/naddr1qqxxx6t50yhx2ctjw35xc7gprpmhxue69uhhyetvv9uju7npwpehgmmjv5hxgetkqgsxaamh579jgp06666dk2npjytygyfrkq70zjrgszzzsrd32sua43qrqsqqqlstt49k8z
macOS preview for Apple silicon:
https://github.com/zeSchlausKwab/earthly/releases/latest/download/earthly-macos-aarch64.dmg
⚠️ The macOS build is currently an unsigned, unnotarized preview.
🔒 Private groups — public alpha
Private groups combine encrypted chat, comments, maps, and shared geometry in one workspace. Earthly uses MLS — Messaging Layer Security — to encrypt group records and update the cryptographic epoch whenever membership changes.
Cordn coordinates membership and orders delivery through @nprofile…g2s8 over Nostr, but only receives opaque MLS records. It does not receive plaintext messages or maps. Invitations are signed, joining requires an MLS key package, and an administrator must approve new members.
👋 Join our Earthly test group -> the link is at the bottom of this post!
⚠️ Private groups are still alpha. The MLS implementation is release-candidate software and has not received an independent professional security audit. Please experiment with us, report problems, and do not yet rely on it for highly sensitive or safety-critical coordination.
✨ A much more capable AI mapping assistant
Earthly’s AI chat can now inspect the current map, research places, query geographic sources, create and revise structured geometry, and turn the resulting Dataset into an article with inline map references.
Tip: Try Kimi 2.7 code highspeed via the moonshot API. - ITS FUCKING FACEMELTING 🚀
Its actions remain inspectable, and everything it creates becomes editable GeoJSON — not a screenshot or a closed AI artifact.
🧠 Technically, the assistant combines typed editor tools, a bounded QuickJS geospatial sandbox, and remote ContextVM/MCP tools. Geographic research is federated across OpenStreetMap and Overpass, Wikipedia, Wikidata, and our private SearXNG service.
🌏 Belt and Road map plus referenced article:
https://earthly.city/static/tour/ai-belt-road-story.mp4
🚢 Persian Gulf ports and global shipping routes:
https://earthly.city/static/tour/hormuz-ports-shipping.mp4
🏕️ Offline maps and nearby Field sessions
The native app embeds its own Nostr relay and Blossom file service. Saved regions can keep map tiles and referenced resources on the device, verify them by hash, and load them locally.
Signed publications enter a durable SQLite outbox before the first network attempt and can be delivered byte-for-byte when connectivity returns.
📡 Field sessions are a separate nearby collaboration mode. A host creates a signed, expiring, single-use invitation. Another phone joins over shared Wi-Fi or a hotspot, signs the pairing claim, and waits for explicit host approval.
The resulting permission is capability- and session-scoped. Devices can then exchange verified Nostr records and hash-verified Blossom files without depending on an internet connection or central relay.
🛠️ And many smaller improvements
Earthly now has proper multi-step drawing for rectangles, circles, triangles, and arrows; scaling controls with meaningful handles; larger arrowheads; real dashed lines; centered line labels; deletion for Private groups and Field sessions; a cleaner and collapsible AI configuration interface; better toast placement; model switching; and a swipeable mobile tour slider.
🌱 Earthly remains open source and built around open geography, open protocols, and user-controlled data.

Your liberties can't be taken away from you because they are god given and eternal. People just choose to comply because the fear the real or imagined repercussions. To a big degree it's a choice.
It does indeed make it less bad because not only is it a personal way out but it also gives you the opportunity to be an example for others.
If you've watched the recent legislation carefully you would see that the vast majority of it relates to big tech on the operator side. Neither e2e encryption per se nor self hosting are criminalized. Code is still free.
As legacy big tech enters it's winter it's just natural that the governments (all of them) claim additional controls in an attempt to "freeze the situation".
This is why I personally prefer to view these developments as an emergent process and surf them instead of fighting windmills.

How is this a bad day? This is like carnivores complaining about vegans. Vegans are the best thing ever.
You are on #nostr and are lucky enough to know, own and be able to use:
- freedom/privacy tech
- freedom money
...and hopefully have a sovereign mindset. What are we complaining about here? They'll get around it someday but we will never be able to convince the cattle in time to "save democracy". Why not just lean back and enjoy the show?
