We're lead to believe by the name that Long Weekends are somehow longer than regular weekends.
This is one of the most frustrating challenges of space-time structure, as time simply speeds up, so that the long weekend takes up the same amount of time as the regular weekend.

I seem to recall that during the last break, a water usage map was available, in a failed attempt to possibly shame people into conservation efforts. So, yes they could identify and approach users to make them aware.

Due to the critical water main break along 16 Ave. N.W. in #Calgary, the city is reminding us to conserve water usage while repairs are being done.
They have suggested three ways we can save water today:
🚿 Limit showers to 3 minutes
🚽 Flush only when necessary
🍽️ Run dishwashers and laundry only when full.
‐-------------
Personal experience on how doable even a 2 minute shower is..
- Run water for 20 seconds to warm up water.
- Another 40 seconds to get yourself thoroughly wet.
- Then.. And this is key, Turn Off the water while you apply soap and scrub yourself.
- Run water again to thoroughly rinse yourself off for 60 seconds.
It can be done in even less time, but 2 minutes is a nice treat.

2026-01-02 00:26:30 GMT

Agreed, that the time is misleading if you are there for a less critical issue and will likely get bumped in the queue.
I always understood that times were subject to triage, but they were good indication of the pressure on the system at that moment in time.
At my most recent ER visit, I was triaged past the line and waiting room, and was being monitored, but still had to wait 9 hours before additional doctors got on-shift before any actual intervention started.
Overhearing the staff openly talking about their concern about many high risk patients waiting several hours is probably worse than not seeing an estimated wait time displayed.

2026-01-01 23:17:46 GMT

A frustratingly, engaging thing about this.. even the opinion of many those healthcare professionals facing this daily chaos, is that this strain on the system is unnecessary and intentional. Failure of public health by design.

2026-01-01 20:00:04 GMT
