I've become fascinated learning more about how the current AI bubble will pop, and what that'll look like.
First up, we have an entertaining historical perspective on bubbles. The thesis here is that much of the "pro AI" vs. "anti AI" discourse may be asking the wrong questions; focusing on the demand side rather than the supply side.

1/2 Very much enjoying the Bechdel Cast LIVE on the topic of the Star Wars prequels.
Here is EVERY TIME WOMEN INTERACT in the Star Wars prequels (it’s 2.5 minutes long)
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Xi-O0_OPQQ4

Live podcast recording, CW, includes Obi Wan + Darth Maul erotic fan fiction 😆
https://www.iheart.com/podcast/105-the-bechdel-cast-30089535/episode/star-wars-the-prequels-episodes-i-310850323/

And here, dear reader, is Marcia Lucas, George Lucas’s ex-wife, describing her reaction to The Phantom Menace (I learned of this from the podcast):

❝George is, in his heart and soul, a good guy and a talented filmmaker. I wish he would’ve kept directing [other kinds of] movies. But when I went to see Episode I — I had a friend who worked at ILM, who took me as a guest to a preview — I cried. I cried because I didn’t think it was very good. And I thought he had such a rich vein to mine, a rich palette to tell stories with. He had all those characters. I thought it was weird that the story was about this little boy who looked like he was six years old, but then later on he’s supposed to get with this princess who looked like she was twenty years old. There were things I didn’t like about the casting, and things I didn’t like about the story…it was a lot of eye candy.

❞

I can create a profile and a Care Manual by answering prompts
I can post and view calendar events
I can upload a photo to my profile
I can view a newsfeed of support requests and offers
I can like, repost, and comment on a support request / support offering
Role: person seeking support
I can post a request for support
Role: person who wants to offer support
I can view another person‘s profile on how they would like to receive support aka their Care Manual
I can post an offering of support

#behindTheBastards is a great podcast.
**Carl Schmitt: The Mind Behind Modern Fascism**
[quote from Part 2]
❝The maintenance of every border implies violence. And this is both physical borders like the border between us in Mexico, and like what you're seeing right now with the attempt to legislate like what counts as a woman, with all these anti-trans things. Both of those borders are maintained by men with guns, with violence. There's the threat of violence behind building every one of those borders. If you cross this border, or at least cross it in the wrong way, force will be used against you. Every democracy does this, and it does this not just in terms of who can enter the country, but who gets to vote.
[...]
. . . because what you do as the reactionary is you find that border wherever it exists, and you start pushing inward. And as you start pushing inward from that border, you will start fracturing the democratic consensus that exists until you can destroy democracy. And that's how you gain power as a reactionary movement within a liberal That's how you destroy liberalism. You find the border that they placed and you start pushing inwards. That's what Carl realizes, and that's what he lays out, and it works today as well as it did back then.❞

❓ My question for YOU:
What are the specific weaknesses / shortcomings of Mastodon's approach to moderation, specifically as it relates to shitty speech directed at fem, trans, black, and other marginalized communities.
⭐ I'm not explicitly asking for additional labor from e.g. #blackMastodon (though it's welcome if you care to share)
⭐ I'm seeking previously-posted perspectives from individuals from marginalized communities who have been negatively impacted by the way that moderation is structured in #ActivityPub
Part of my rough current understanding of (one of) the issues:
If person A posts post 1, and person B comments [a shitty] reply 2, reply 2 remains visible and attached to post 1, unless there are instance-level blocking actions taken. Do I have that right?
Thanks all!

OpenAI is getting really creative working around the increasingly apparent limitations of current LLM tech, and seeking to distract from the fact that GPT-5 is late and wildly expensive (both in $ and environmental cost) to train and run.
