"This is a desperate situation where you have a lawless agency flouting the laws and threatening resources," as Baykeeper science director @npub1vv2…6mmk said.
"The outcome is, we're going to lose these and other fish that exist nowhere else on Earth."

It's #EarthDay! 💚 Wondering what you can do locally to protect the Bay?
Throughout #EarthMonth, you can join us for our annual Clean Bay Challenge. As a Clean Bay Challenge volunteer, you'll protect the Bay by picking up trash in the places you already know and love. Baykeeper will provide the tools + tips you need to lead a safe and effective cleanup.
It is a great way for kids, families, and neighbors to make a difference together.

For the first time in more than a century(!!), salmon are returning to the Klamath River's headwaters following the completion of a major dam removal project.
A good reminder that nature can rebound if we just let it 🐟

Did you know that Chevron is the 5th largest owner of farm land in the Central Valley?
CA agricultural land is being snapped up by investment firms, corporations & opaque holding companies. And these entities are consuming enormous quantities of CA's fresh water -- with very little transparency.
Really important op-ed piece from the @npub1lhu…w3jw: https://www.sfchronicle.com/opinion/openforum/article/farms-agriculture-corporations-21015386.php #cawater #centralvalley #water #sfbay #sfbaydelta

A #sewage leak of 20 million gallons of wastewater into a #ContraCostaCounty wetland could have considerable ecological consequences for fish & wildlife.
As Baykeeper executive director Sejal Choksi-Chugh explained to KQED, "When you’ve got a lot of this wastewater discharging in concentrated levels in an area like that, we’re going to see some exposure to chemicals that are in wastewater. That's going to have an impact; whether or not we see that impact in this generation of fish and wildlife or in their next generation is something that we would have to see." https://www.kqed.org/news/12016804/how-major-east-bay-sewage-leak-could-harm-fish-wildlife

Baykeeper often gets asked whether it's safe to swim in #SFBay--and the answer is usually an emphatic "Yes!"
But there's an important exception to keep in mind. Direct contact with the Bay should be avoided for at least 48 hours after a rain storm. The heavier the rainfall, the longer you should wait to get into the water ☔
Here's why: https://baykeeper.org/update/is-there-sewage-pollution-in-the-bay/

BREAKING: Today, we and our partners took action against Exxon for #plastic polymer pollution & for misrepresenting plastics recycling.
SF Bay has some of the highest levels of #microplastics in the world -- and that's why we're going after #Exxon to stop plastic pollution at the source.
Big thanks to our coalition partners at Heal the Bay, Sierra Club, Surfrider, and Cotchett, Pitre & McCarthy, and to AG Bonta for filing a similar lawsuit.
