There was nothing that interested me.
I'm Sorry.

I just went to https://wiki.debian.org/. I briefly saw a green box with a check-mark and the text "verified." It does appear to be some kind of check to keep bots/scrapers out.

I've been using zed. I was reluctant to try it because I use ZFS which also has zed. The editor installs in my home dir and I've aliased it to zeded to avoid confusion.
It's refreshingly FAST! And when I rename files (in the terminal, not the editor) it can keep up, which impressed me. Maybe it's reading my bash history which would be a little less welcomed.

Wait... You said train station?
The last time I rode Amtrak (long distance rail in the US - for some definition of long distance) I don't recall any security screening. The conductor checked my ticket so he could direct me to a car that would be on the platform at my destination and that's all I can recall.

When I say "Docker" I really mean any container technology. Docker is just the one I've used.
If you don't have experience with that, I suggest that you set up something on a "test PC" and work through the migration before you commit to migrating the real instance. I do that and try to keep copious notes and it helps me a lot. A retired laptop or even a Raspberry Pi is useful for stuff like this.

Apologies for the delay getting back to you. I know when you're in the middle of something you (me!) just want to get on with it.
Docker lets you map storage inside the container (what the program in the container sees) to real storage in the filesystem. You would need to figure out how to configure that mapping so the program in the container sees what the native installation sees. There would probably be similar mapping for the ports that Nextcloud uses.

I don't know if containers are an option for you but they do isolate application needs (e.g. Nextcloud) from what the OS provides.
I use Docker but Podman and other container technologies would work too. I've heard that one of the easiest ways to install Nextcloud is using their Docker container image.
Regardless, be sure you have good backups before doing more.
Good luck and thanks for helping out.

What's for lunch?
Today I had left over ham salad with hot giardiniera on a slice of a multi-grain bread.
Tomorow... I need to get off my butt and make that split pea soup. (Might be porridge to you.)

I presume that ethtool reports negotiation at 2.5gbe.
Do you have one of those fancy cable testers? Do you have a hub smart enough to report cable readings (like my TP-Link TL-SG108E?)
Probably the chip on the motherboard, but I'd prefer to really rule out cables.
Did it ever provide full bandwidth? New mobo?

I switched to systemd.networkd for my headless servers because interfaces style configuration kept overwriting the resolv.conf file produced by Tailscale. How did you overcome that?

What's a Debian CTA?
And what would official Debian support mean for Framework? If it would involve Framework helping Debian that seems like it would be a good thing.

I'm not a python dev. The '-break-system-packages' seems like a red flag. I think that can be avoided by use a python environment (or perhaps a docker container.)

I don't know to install headless and remote. I need a console to boot a live USB and enable SSH.
My other issue was inability to follow the detailed instructions, so I scripted it. https://github.com/HankB/Linux_ZFS_Root/tree/master/Debian
ZFS Boot Menu is another alternative.
I'm using Bookworm on ZFS with encrypted root (native encryption) on my laptop.

I'm curious about the decision to choose Forgejo. I'm presently using Gitea and I understand there were reasons to fork Forgejo. I wonder if I should be considering switching to Forgejo.
Is there any public discussion that I can read?
Thanks!

There was also source code and patches published to Usenet. I don't recall how much took place there but it was generally open and accessible. (Some newsgroups were moderated.)

Call your congress critters and voice a complaint. There has been movement to make this illegal and the more folk who complain, the sooner it is likely to happen.

You should upgrade your Internet to fiber. 😜
J/K. Do you get better iperf numbers over the Internet? It seems like something between the hosts may be throttling TCP connections or perhaps your connection. On traditional cable Internet upload is severely nerfed.

syncoid will use mbuffer and lzop to improve network throughput during send/recv.
I strongly suspect that send/recv are single threaded. and syncoid deals with datasets serially. You could probably run multiple instances of syncoid (each on a different dataset) to see if you can gain more throughput.
If you're sending a single dataset, make sure you have mbuffer installed to help reduce burstiness.

IMO Linux' Achilles Heel, but some distros manage it better than others. I don;t use Fedora regularly but I think it's a solid distro. Glad you found happiness there.
Debian user here. I'm aware that there are tools to "import" RPMs and I suspect that Fedora has ways to import DEBs, but they probably remain on the edge of the packaging system when it comes to updates (in both directions.)

That's what I did with a (sacrificial) Trixie install on a Pi CM4.
When it was obvious that something important (like Gnome or Plasma) was going to be removed by `dist-upgrade` I'd just hold off on that until it was no longer the case. It seemed like a normal `upgrade` did not have these issues.
There were times when `dist-upgrade` did upgrade hundreds of packages following the delay.
My suggestion: backup and let 'er rip.
