...and after some fixups, we are happy to announce that mobile-config-firefox 5.0.0 proper is out now! :firefoxnew:
https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/mobile-config-firefox/-/tags/5.0.0
Thanks to @npub1785…zmup, @npub1cc9…zrg3! Also to Jesús Higueras from FuriOS who implemented the improved popup support in furios-firefox-tweaks first, on which some of the changes in 5.0.0_rc1 are based!

IMHO the main issue is that these websites use UAs to decide between mobile page or not in the first place instead of making their websites responsive/adaptive. If they did that, they would send the same code regardless of the UA to the client, and have CSS media queries or JS for presenting a suitable UI for smaller screens on demand. When done properly, users can just shrink the window and get the mobile view without reloading the page.

:firefox: less than 10 days after the last release --- happy to announce that mobile-config-firefox 4.6.0 is out:
* Adjustments for the latest FF 137 (thanks @npub1pus…aagp!)
* Per-site user-agent spoofing (makes e.g. youtube use its proper mobile site, thanks @npub1785…zmup and people working on furios-firefox-tweaks! also: sad that this is needed 😵‍💫)
* Using defaultPref() instead of pref() where possible, allowing users to override them via about:config (thanks @npub1785…zmup!)

If you always wanted to run a tiling window manager on your smartphone, give Sxmo a try.
They just added a nice getting started guide to nicely illustrate how gestures are used to open the menu, bring up and close the keyboard, switch between workspaces and more:

Great work @npub1n3a…v04l and Sxmo team!

thanks for writing this! for anyone wondering, we do indeed plan to switch to greetd and phrog for both systemd and openrc by default in edge as soon as https://gitlab.postmarketos.org/postmarketOS/pmaports/-/merge_requests/6106 is ready.

The recording of "postmarketOS - what is it and what's new?" has been released!
https://video.fosdem.org/2025/h2214/fosdem-2025-4654-postmarketos-what-is-it-and-what-s-new-.av1.webm
Not in the video: three very nice people in the front immediately holding up their laptops as somebody in the audience asks about postmarketOS on other devices than phones 😀
Check out the other talks from the FOSS on Mobile Devices room too. I saw most of them and they were quite interesting!

Thanks all for coming to my talk!
FYI there was a problem with the rec, it shows 8 min of @npub13a8…am5l's previous one & cuts right into the middle of mine. using the "fix start/end position" tools doesn't help. I've ticked the box for letting an admin to please have a look. I've tried to "reset" the video, but same result.
If somebody happens to have had recorded the live stream for some reason, let me know!
(Maybe we can get the CCC relive feature at fosdem at some point? 🙂)

Just watched the #38c3 #libobscura talk from @npub1ws3…halv. I especially liked the idea form, very visual explanation of feedback loop and credits roll. Great project and awesome presentation! 😀

After ~ half a year of massive refactorings and improvements to make pmbootstrap easier to maintain and to bring more performance and better usability, we are happy to announce the 3.0.0 release of pmbootstrap!
Personally my favorite new feature is that packages to build are now calculated and shown ahead of time, but it features so many more improvements.
Coming soon to a distro near you - if you want to use it now, grab it from the git repo!

regarding muscle memory (or musl memory? 😉) - no worries.
