The best case study is still mobile in India : newer providers could only offer IPv6 and then everyone enabled IPv6 access. IPv6 being broken for most users because of last-mile providers is the biggest impediment to adoption. npub1e5h338cytaqcaz0u0qza6ts6eh8kqecu76d33h066g80j3aup5kqx6ydpw Carl @nprofile…u76z I firmly believe that the complete lack of understanding, and support, around IPv6 by last mile (and especially residential) providers in North America is the absolute largest impediment to broad adoption npub1e5h338cytaqcaz0u0qza6ts6eh8kqecu76d33h066g80j3aup5kqx6ydpw Carl @nprofile…srz9 As someone else who has a fair amount of HPE gear, this is very interesting to me! Is your code or the X11 code available somewhere? npub1e5h338cytaqcaz0u0qza6ts6eh8kqecu76d33h066g80j3aup5kqx6ydpw Carl OK, I could use some suggestions Fediverse: The recent manual opt-out every individual app in #Android for scraping/learning #AI is pushing me to switch to #GrapheneOS The problem is I need a way to use apps that only work on Google Services enabled Android, so I'm looking for a remote access option for my stock android phone which can live in my desk at home and I can access remotely using an app on GrapheneOS Does anyone have some suggestions for such an app? npub1e5h338cytaqcaz0u0qza6ts6eh8kqecu76d33h066g80j3aup5kqx6ydpw Carl @nprofile…sr9k In Gen 11 it seems the fans are normally controlled by a suite of software that is installed in ESXi but not available for Debian/Proxmox. I don't think it's even available for anything past CentOS/RHEL 7. That's why you're having those fan management problems. npub1e5h338cytaqcaz0u0qza6ts6eh8kqecu76d33h066g80j3aup5kqx6ydpw Carl @nprofile…sr9k I also use HPE servers. If the BIOS is configured in "Performance" mode then the fans are always at full speed. If it's in "Balanced" mode then the fans ramp on demand. It's better in the Gen 12 and 12+ servers, but the Gen 11 I just bought exhibited this exact same issue. npub1e5h338cytaqcaz0u0qza6ts6eh8kqecu76d33h066g80j3aup5kqx6ydpw Carl @nprofile…sr9k I don't have any direct alternatives, sadly. I'm supporting Servo with the hope they will become that alternative, but these things take time. In the mean time, I am willing to bet that your battery drain is due to JavaScript. Adding some extensions like Privacy Badger may help a lot, because I don't see this issue and use Firefox on my Android device almost exclusively. Also, check "about:processes" for more info in FF npub1e5h338cytaqcaz0u0qza6ts6eh8kqecu76d33h066g80j3aup5kqx6ydpw Carl Sometimes, porting software is so frustrating. Every language has decided to reinvent the package manager. Most of them fail to solve when someone wants to run on a new platform/compiler/architecture. Props to Arch and Debian for doing it right. Right now I'm fighting with rubygems, a native extension needs and updated config.guess and it's a nightmare. The other extension wants to build its own NodeJS because the devs hate me. Containers just makes this process even worse most of the time.
