Dumb question, I guess:
I understand that you can just roll a bunch of new/good dice or throw 264 coins in a shoebox, shake them up, and randomly pull them out in stacks sufficient to create your own private key/seed words…and then you can stamp the corresponding seed into a metal of your choice and hide it for the next thousand years, but then what? You can’t just enter those words into sparrow running on your personal computer. Do you put them into a hardware device and rely on it solely as a signer? What was/is the OG cypherpunk method of utilizing a purely human generated, totally random, private key with a wallet software?

Apologize if this has already been discussed, but, during the BIP110 mandatory signaling period, will Ocean’s back end flip to enforcing? In other words, will the pool still accept non-signaling shares during this period?
Similarly, should there be a resultant chain split, will the pool only mine on the new BIP-110 chain tip?

Certainly not arguing the side of on chain zaps, but isn’t the picture you painted more of an ‘address reuse’ issue than a ‘on chain zap’ specific issue?

I questioned the non KYC aspect here:
https://primal.net/e/nevent1qqst4p68x7rqjtlgkt64mfvg4e3q6hs34stl4fcts5gzj58n7ypk96cr0w834
Seems like that needs some further clarification.
Also, might want to elaborate on Ocean’s payout policy as well just so anyone that wants to try this is aware. On chain payout minimums are around 1 million sats. That’s roughly around one month of 1Ph/s hash rental from Braiins at today’s rates. If you rent less hash and/or want more frequent smaller payouts, you need to setup lightning payouts which require a Bolt12 offer.
Just FYI’ing.

I really like the idea of this and am currently spinning up a new/separate pruned knots node to test it out.
There’s been a lot of talk or inferring about the advantages of this with regard to getting clean non KYC’d sats. I totally get that from a ‘mining’ perspective in general, but, unless you rent the hash from Braiins using non KYC’d sats to begin with, aren’t you essentially KYC’ing all sats associated with your payout address?
@nprofile…swak ‘s video yesterday made it clear that you shouldn’t fund your Braiins account directly from an exchange, but, instead, you should fund it from a separate wallet once removed from the exchange (e.g. exchange -> sparrow-> Braiins). I fail to see how this accomplishes anything.
What am I missing here?

Huge thanks to @nprofile…crx0 and @nprofile…jt40 for bringing this to the forefront! Truly mind bending stuff. The Matrix has been used for years to describe the bitcoiner’s awakening from fiat, but what if the awakening isn’t just from the fiat blurred lens but, rather, from our perception of reality based on physics that has been wrong for the past 80+ years?
From listening to this, it makes sense (at least to me) why @nprofile…jt40 is getting more vocal in his messaging below:
“Pricing a protocol designed to free you from a piece of paper designed to enslave you doesn’t make a lot of sense to me.”
He’s literally re-thinking everything.
One last thing - kudos to @nprofile…rx84 for starting it and @nprofile…crx0 for adopting it as part of his shows, but this episode’s outro literally made the hair on my arms stand up.
“Time is not a river; time is a heartbeat.”
Brilliant tl;dr of this pod!

A lot of the models are the same under the cover. In other words, some generac and kohler models might use the same Briggs and Stratton engine, same controller, and same switch gear. An apples to oranges comparison might end up being an apples to apples comparison and ultimately just be about price. Dig into the details.
Agree with a lot of the other comments - warranty isn’t worth much. Routine maintenance and regular/weekly exercising are key. They’re pretty basic…learn how to maintain it yourself and you’ll save sats and probably be able to troubleshoot most any issue in an emergency.

Thanks @nprofile…4snc for making this clear in the most recent videos. Relaying this garbage IS the attack. It’s got nothing to do with the nodes ultimately having to download and store it in their copies of the time chain…it’s about distribution. I totally missed this.

I wonder if this is just a negotiation tactic. In the previous video you referenced an X post that listed two reasons why the devs would do this - because they’re evil or because they want to advance some other business venture. In the post, the former was immediately ruled out leaving just the second option…which, is how all this started to begin with.
In that light, suppose all they needed/wanted was to increase the limit to say 200 bytes (honestly, this has gone on for so long I can’t even remember what the original requirement was). Knowing that a portion of the community would resist even that change, why not go all out and say you’re actually planning to increase it to some astronomical size, let the community drive themselves insane arguing over it, and then, just before shipping the update, make an about face, acknowledge the error in your ways, bend the knee, and set the limit to what you wanted originally?

Came here to make the same comment. I love the videos and watch every one of them. I also switched to Knots…even before this op_return nonsense. However, if the transaction is confirmed, your Knots node is going to download and store it whether you chose to relay it or not.
With regard to the ‘attack’, is there some sort of legal distinction between ‘transmitting’ and ‘storing’ this horrific data @nprofile…zady ?

Seems plausible…borderline obvious. What I can’t get my head around, though, are the implications to the stock and bond holders when said governments flip the switch and expose the plan. Do they just wait until all the bonds convert, let the market drive the nav premium down to 1, and print a bunch of fiat to pay out all the shareholders? Sounds a little too 6102’ish.

I watched the logs on my bitaxe for a while today and saw all the stratum client and server messages. I couldn’t figure out how to decipher the nbit field, but it’s clear that the local public pool instance is lowering the difficulty like all pools do. Like you, though, I’m very interested in the block template origin.

Solo mining newb questions:
I’m running bitcoin core on Umbrel and just installed the public pool app to learn about solo mining. I’ve got a bitaxe pointed to the stratum address of the local public pool instance.
The public pool app can see the bitaxe activity, and I can see the job information being sent to the bitaxe in the bitaxe logs. It’s hashing away (and occasionally overheating), and everything appears to be working fine.
I’m assuming the bitaxe firmware is getting the block template from the public pool Umbrel app. Is this accurate?
If so, is the local public pool app generating its own block template based on my local node, or is it getting it from the ‘larger’ public pool?
Is the local public pool app decreasing the difficulty that’s being sent to my bitaxe, like most pools do? I’m assuming it is since I can see that many shares have been submitted by the bitaxe.
Is any of this configurable locally?
Is any of this able to be viewed via the CLI?
Appreciate any feedback.

Wouldn’t it actually be much higher than $400k? The $8.1T market cap assumes the $6.8T immediately transitioned into BTC at the current market price. However, as it transitioned the price would run…resulting in a much higher ultimate price and market cap. I don’t know the actual math/formula (I’m not sure an exact one exists), but I think this is how it would work.

Totally agree with this line of thinking. With the App Store-like approach systems such as start9 and umbrel have taken, OCD folks like myself will instinctively feel compelled to run node updates if, for no other reason, simply to make the update notification disappear.
Additionally, I’ve seen some high signal folks in the space suggest that we should treat every core upgrade as an attack while other high signal folks produce reports on how many nodes are running old/out of date versions of core.
It can be confusing for sure.
(PS - please don’t read this as a criticism of start9 or umbrel. I absolutely love them…just using them to illustrate a point).
