I've got mostly hybrid chestnuts, some persimmon, some willow, some white oak that I propagated last winter/spring. They will be planted out into my pasture next month to begin establishing a sylvopasture system with sheep, chickens, and maybe cows in the future. Yes, there is 1/4" hardware cloth on the bottoms to hold the soil and allow roots to poke through. When the roots poke through they dry out and sluff off allow me to easily transplant later.

First harvest from Shake the Tree at Clover Hill Farm is Strawberry flowers. It’s not much, but it’s a start.
Shake the Tree is a project that is years in the making and hopefully will continue to be for decades to come. Meghan and I have a vision to add our flavor to the growing number of folks growing strong local communities by re-engaging with our landscapes in a regenerative way.
Our mission is to create a thriving land-based business, by growing food in perennial crop systems, helping others do the same with our edible and medicinal plant nursery, producing pasture based meat using rotational grazing to mimic the natural movement of animals on the land, provide educational and therapeutic experiences for people on this beautiful land we now call home.
Clover Hill Farm is the name of farm we now tend and it is in the town of Alfred on what was once Pequawket land. Clover Hill Farm is where this will start. Who knows where it will end. I hope you come along for the ride.

Laying out the new raspberry patch on contour last night at the farm. I used an A frame plumb bob (forgot to get a picture of that) to find the precise contours and then smoothed it to a line of best fit and then laid out parallel rows at the proper spacing. Todays plan is to till it up and hopefully not hit to many rocks! It seems like the dorpers do have a little more meat on them than the Katahdins, especially in the legs. And people really like their leg of lamb at holiday times. I’ve also heard that they can need more medical attention, but I’ve also talked to shepherds who are really hands off with them and have bred a pretty resilient flock, by culling those that need medical attention frequently.

Decide you are going to do it everyday for a month at a set time and stick to it even if you just sit there for ten minutes with your eyes closed thinking of random things. Eventually your body will expect it and you’ll look forward to it. At least that worked for me. Good Luck!

It’s definitely in the carrot family, but be careful poison hemlock is in the family too. Pull up one of the roots. If it’s smells like a carrot you’ve got a delicious treat. Is this a garden volunteer or a wild find?

Just joined a meat CSA and a veggie CSA in my town for the first time in a couple years. For the quality of produce you can’t beat the price of a CSA. Lot of value for your money. I love supporting local farms and businesses and meeting the farmers. You also are forced, in a good way, to work with. It’s and veggies you wouldn’t buy at the store and it tends to expand your cooking repertoire. Cons are it’s not quite as convenient as the supermarket and both only took cash$ or check so payment was a bit of a hassle. Pros outway the cons in my opinion.
