I think the IFF family of file formats predates XML for your point 1, but they were always binary and not plaintext.

I've had 2 impersonators on mastodon.social in the last month, so prioritising accounts with bidirectional rel=me links in autocomplete would help.

this is what rel=me integration is for.

Key findings:
45% of all AI answers had at least one significant issue.
31% of responses showed serious sourcing problems – missing, misleading, or incorrect attributions.
20% contained major accuracy issues, including hallucinated details and outdated information.
Gemini performed worst with significant issues in 76% of responses, more than double the other assistants, largely due to its poor sourcing performance.

well, Activity Streams has Article as well as Note, but Mastodon skipped that part of the spec, so here we are. Use phanpy.social to get better thread handling.

no, it was an XKCD joke first, then the EFF made it real at etech 2007 This thread was fun at the time https://xkcd.com/341/ and even funnier when Randall came to Google and Knuth asked him for the O(n log ( log n) ) proof

ah, then you can edit the html to wrap the footer in <details> like I said above. You can nest them, or do one after each <hr> if you want to present the different sections. It's like collapsing an outline in an outliner, but as native HTML.

I don't know how you do it in WP, that's a standard HTML way to make sections collapsible. Are your sections separate plugins? https://developer.mozilla.org/en-US/docs/Web/HTML/Reference/Elements/details

I read Cory's posts in a feed reader, and I have a related UX improvement suggestion. Could you wrap the long thread of footer info after each post in a block like this:
<details open><summary>Hide footer</summary>[long thread of footer stuff]</details>
so I can close it and read the next post without scrolling past it for ages? That would be nice.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Exoplanet has a 'discredited claims' section that mentions Barnard's star - adding a summary of the 61 Cygni claims to that would be a reasonable edit.

infinitemac.org is great, it means that I can run the CD-ROMs I worked on in the 1990s again. Now I'm wondering what kind of PICT they were originally, as PICTs could be bitmaps, vector graphics or compressed images too.

“I believe — though I would be happy to be proved wrong on this — that current generative AI systems represent a dead end, where exponential increases of training data and effort will give us modest increases in impressive plausibility but no foundational increase in reliability. I would love to see compositional approaches to neural networks, hard as it appears.” https://www.bcs.org/articles-opinion-and-research/does-current-ai-represent-a-dead-end/

oblong industries - the people who did the original multiscreen demo for Minority Report built a thing called Mezzanine that let you move video around a room full of screens using a Wii wand. The idea being that you build a war room full of screens and collaborate in it.
Splendidly satirized in the most recent Slow Horses series.

it reminds me of the oblong stuff, which was all about a flashy demo and not actually about integrating data

I got an updated router from Virgin Media last week and the config app was trying to police what password I could set for my home network.
Fortunately they did it in an SPA so I could set a breakpoint and allow the typeable one I wanted.

Reporting of the latest UBI test programme is ignoring the key finding, obvious to anyone who knows low income people, that their first impulse was to spread the wealth to others.
This thinking is so alien to economists and financial types that they barely discuss it. https://www.openresearchlab.org/findings/key-findings-spending

“People act like writing code is the hard part of software. It is not. It never has been, it never will be. Writing code is the easiest part of software engineering, and it’s getting easier by the day. The hard parts are what you do with that code—operating it, understanding it, extending it, and governing it over its entire lifecycle.” https://stackoverflow.blog/2024/06/10/generative-ai-is-not-going-to-build-your-engineering-team-for-you/?utm_campaign=so-blog&utm_content=gen-ai-build-eng-teams&utm_medium=social&utm_source=mastodon by @npub17zp…6ncn

the Twitter inferred gender had the same problems. The entire point of it is ad targeting, so it is deciding whether to sell you cars and videogames if male or homewares and makeup if female, as it is a stereotype fitting machine that only cares about your gender as a marketing proxy
