David has some great points there. I think more than anything though computing was just more fun in those days. Revisiting them today with the benefits of unparalleled access to information about those retro systems, ready availability of entire software libraries for those same computers, and modern hardware conveniences that remove the worst pain points of the original experience only adds to the fun now even more.

Posts from there just won't automatically appear on your server's federated timeline just because your server "sees it" (aka someone on your server follows an account there). A boost will still appear normally on the home feed of someone who's subscribed to the boosting account.
As for why newsie.social is on the list in the first place my understanding is it boils down to the presence of journalists from some large controversial news orgs being present on there (newsmax is an oft-cited example). It's complicated but personally I think the better solution would be for large news orgs to run their own Fediverse servers.

@npub10vg…rmsh If I understand correctly the addition of newsie.social is a bit controversial which is why it's one of a handful on that list that's only silenced instead of suspended. Silenced means users on your instance can still subscribe to accounts there, they just won't get propagated to the public timeline.

@npub10vg…rmsh @npub1mad…2tn3 @npub1gn0…u8pv That supposes a level of default trust in your moderation abilities and not blocking at least the tier 0 100% list doesn't make very a good initial impression. Some server admins won't care but some will just defederate to preemptively avoid the hassle of potential issues in the future. There are always going to be server admins who for practical reasons will adhere to minimum standards if for no other reason than to avoid potential extra unpaid work for themselves.

There's a bare minimum level of responsibility to minimize literal trash that doesn't contribute one whit towards any definition of discourse. Of course you're free to allow that on your server but there are definitely other servers that will defederate from you for not taking care of basic housekeeping.

@npub1zr4…5p7x Which drivers are you trying to use? The latest SNAP driver has support for the G400, although not for a dual head setup. (It only supports the G450 or G550 for dual monitor using Matrox cards).
Also make sure you meet the minimum requirements for FixPaks installed first. Warp 4, at least fixpak 5 or better; Warp 3, at least fixpak 35.

I have a working 60MB example of one of those thick bois (CP-2061, 18mm thick) in my Amiga 1200. They're surprisingly heavy for a "laptop" drive and add a somewhat shocking amount of heft to the computer as a whole when you pick it up.

@npub1zr4…5p7x It's all one big display, so effectively zero bezel unlike if you stacked two monitors on an arm. Aside from that it gives you the option of using it as one huge single (2560 x 2880) input display or as effectively two discrete 16:9 monitors using the hardware-based PbP (and optionally the built in KVM feature) depending on how you cable it up. It's also rotateable, so you could use it in the (slightly) wider 18:16 (2880 x 2560) orientation instead of the default 16:18.

Personally I like the flexibility of having multiple monitors more for everyday productivity tasks. I do get the appeal of the ultra wide monitors for gaming though. As for PbP, I can't see actually using that when FancyZones in Microsoft's PowerToys already works so well for me for subdividing space within a single display.
My current monitor lust is to find a good sale on the LG DualUp monitor to replace my main 16:10 display. It's essentially two 16:9 monitors worth of space stacked on top of each other on a single panel. That combined with a 9:16 portrait display of matching height to one side would be :chef's kiss: for me.

Excellent point! While obviously a single individual should never have the ability to influence the course of a war this unilaterally Musk is still not a nation state unto his own. There would be little leverage or recourse available to him if Russia decided to use ASATs to remove Starlink from the equation. The threat to Musk's business interests seems the likeliest motivation. That said we can't completely discount that Musk's decision here might not be wholly rational either, given his established dedication to the twisted ideology of longtermism.

That's certainly a part of the reason. Let's not forget though the lengths the US political establishment goes to make sure the "wrong" kind of people are denied the opportunity to vote. Short hours for polls, no guaranteed time off work to vote, voter ID requirements, attempts to restrict the ability to vote by mail, the disenfranchisement of ex-cons and prisoners, etc. Other western countries don't make it this difficult to exercise your vote.
