#GBTC is NOT experiencing pressure to lower fees. This is the only chart they care about. (See below) Fiat returns on the trust. As #bitcoin goes to $100k + they will keep milking fees for as long as they can. Even if another 250k of #BTC leaves the trust, they will still sit on a cash cow worth milking. They promise to lower fees but my guess is that they will stretch this as long as they can and eventually go to 99 basis points. Over the next couple of years, they will end up with ~100k #bitcoin, which will still be worth $10B minimum. 1% of $10B is $100M in fees yearly.

Good question. In 15 years, people will be more technologically adept. We’ll also experience more frauds like FTX along the way, which will keep reminding us “not your keys, not your #bitcoin.” There will be more elegant multi-sig solutions available. The older folks that store it with e.g. ETF custodian will also grow old and pass away. My prediction is that if you have a meaningful amount relative to your wealth (whatever that is in 15 years from now) you’re likely to 80% self-custody and 20% service-custody. Any small amounts will be service-custodies as the payments will work better with L2s and L3s.

I just did this on a Mac Mini. Ubuntu is a good option but Debian is less bloated and thus more secure. I wiped MacOS, installed Debian 11, ran a one line script to download and install Umbrel. Pretty easy. If you’re not a Linux person, it’s still doable because you’ll just use a GNOME or other GUI.
