We’re moving the year for a ballot measure from 2026 to 2027. This allows us more time to gather input from the community to shape the initiative to create a Seattle office that provides resources for victims and families -- the Affected Persons Program.

Bellevue police shot and killed a man on Friday, August 8th while he may have been experiencing a mental health crisis.
The King County Independent Force Investigation Team is investigating and his name has not yet been released.

On August 9, 2014, 18-year-old Michael Brown Jr. was killed after being shot six times by a Ferguson, Missouri police officer less than 90 seconds after the officer approached him. The officer fired a total of twelve bullets.
Michael Brown should still be alive today.

Jacksonville, Florida's Sheriff T.K. Waters said Monday that none of the officers involved in the violent arrest and beating of 22-year-old Black motorist William Anthony McNeil Jr. will face criminal charges.
The beating occurred on February 19 after Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office deputies pulled McNeil over for driving without his headlights on — even though it was daytime and not raining.

On July 17, 2014, #EricGarner was killed by New York police after being placed in a banned chokehold. Garner pleaded “I can’t breathe” eleven times and tragically died hours later. His killing was a result of police accusing him of selling cigarette singles.
Today and everyday we fight for victims like Eric Garner and their families. His senseless killing reminds us of the importance to continue to fight to end carceral violence and hold police officers that harm our communities accountable.

The City of Seattle has filed a motion to end the federal consent decree of the Seattle Police Department and submitted a proposed court order to revise crowd control policies, including adding a new command role for large protests, a "Tactical Advisor."
