nowadays, the office burning down wouldn't be existential, I suspect I could have the office services spun up in the cloud in a few hours.

See this is the magic of the #Fediverse : I'm browsing up my feed today and this post (https://fosstodon.org/@tripplehelix/114285503797146600) is boosted into it. Pretty unremarkable, except the guy in the video in that post is someone I knew back in the mid 2000s, but who I haven't spoken to in about 15 years. I should get back in touch really...

while it absolutely wouldn't be where I'd start with the tax policy, the entire isa limit should probably be reduced, not just the cash isa (and I say that as someone using a decent chunk of my isa allowance to buy shares). At the point you're able to *save* a figure that's not far off the median household income in some regions, you should probably being taxed. on the returns, be it cash or stocks and shares.

your maths is missing a pretty important point there. yes ~£850k is a great retirement figure today, but to meet it, our hypothetical retiree would have needed to be putting £2k a year into the fund in *1979*, when the UK median salary was ~£5,000 a year. Anyone who could afford to do that is not worrying about their pension today.

if by any chance IDNet are in the list of 'a few others' I might be able to test switching in. I've been considering a switch to Andrews and Arnold recently (if you're still offering multiple ipv4 addresses - hosting all my services on a single address is starting to get painful :p)
