My kids have always struggled with swimming and they just… keep getting back in anyway, lap after tears after lap. They complain and ache and freeze - and when I told them they can skip this season since they do know how to swim now they said... Nope.
First meet last night and three coaches came to me separately to tell me “this is their summer,” and they crushed it. I've always believed endurance > speed in basically everything that matters, and they are putting in the effort.
Watching my kids win at life is honestly the best gift ever.

You can stand in your perspective and dump other people's issues into buckets of "problems" "first world problems" and "inconveniences", but I have a theory that once you step off the first couple of Maslow's rungs, people have a tendency to seek out unhappiness - maybe as a way of getting a thrill/boost when something good does happen?
I believe there are lots of hungry people who have experienced significantly more joy in their lives than those who have never felt those pangs.
Of course I still believe as a society we should be doing what we can to end starvation, homelessness, and poverty - I'm not implying these awful things "build character". I am implying your reaction to a certain problem may not be the same as someone else's and assuming their unhappiness is less valid because your problems are "bigger" is absurd.

During covid, it became clear to me my daughter's "daydreaming" at school was something that needed to be addressed, but ADHD didn't even occur to me. It did occur to google, and the more I researched the more terrified I became. Turns out girls are much more likely to self-harm and attempt suicide due to these internal struggles with failure and self confidence issues.
Waiting around to see if she figured it out on her own was not an option. And now this girl is crushing it - don't be surprised to see her running bitcoin nodes in space one day. Many moons ago I was walking around in my socks and I stepped on a palmetto bug. I call them that to make them less gross but let’s face it, it’s a giant fucking flying cockroach. (iy from the south yk)
I almost puked from the pop it made underfoot and insides squishing out.
However, for us southerners this is not a tenable dynamic.
So I put in the work. And now when my kid crushes one of these things and flushes it down the toilet with a smile, I know I’m doing it right. They will be independent, strong humans who keep their house clean from infestations.
But of course if there is ever a roach they can’t reach, I will not hesitate to squash it for them, no matter how distasteful it is. Any flying creature really.

if it happens enough you want to vent here, I suspect there are 1 of 3 things is happening -
1 - you have an audience you want to understand the mission so much, but you are unwilling to adapt to their learning style.
2 - you have an audience who actually views you as the audience and are not willing to listen because they are trying to push their agenda on you and possibly have the same complaint against you as you do against them (this is where my chips are going)
3 - I'm a dumb nym who has no business commenting on the state of your affairs and everyone you are talking to is stupid and fuck them for being dumb they deserve the state they serve.

Talking into the void is nice. A good opportunity to express unpopular opinions.
S6 Buffy is my favorite. Buffy is honestly my least fave character (well except for Dawn obvi - RIP Michelle).
S6 Buffy is a badass. A lost, sad, girl living in the same world she always has, but feeling the feels most of us go through at some point. She's out there saving the world while suffering from the consequences of acting on bad relationship choices, realizing all the love of her friends can't make her love herself, and dealing with a bad guy who is just a guy doing bad things (humans are the worst). Simulation or not, she chooses her best life in the end.
Sometimes we are hit with the realization life will not be the heaven we imagined. We can wallow in the waiting place hoping to be proven wrong, or we can move forward to a new season of life.
Me, I'm over here living my best season and thankful I have the wisdom and family support to know which plot points are just filler episodes - but my heart does hurt a little for those girls of all ages who are still struggling to build the most valuable systems in life.
