Could you mean Beyond the Melting Pot (1970)? That is considered the pivotal book of the era on the subject marking the transition away from the "melting pot" paradigm to that of multiculturalism

I don't know, it's totally possible. Communists often oppose mass immigration on humanitarian grounds and because of its deleterious impact on worker's wages. This also tends to get exaggerated by bad actors loosely affiliated with the left, sometimes in the employ of certain three-letter agencies that don't like foreign VPNs
