I had measles before the vaccines. It gave me lifelong tinnitus and ruined my eyesight. I ran such a high fever that all my hair fell out and I had to wear a little mob cap in third grade. I have never been that sick before or since. Any parent who would put their child through that is an abuser.

The Olympic Committee needs to grow a pair and just cancel the 2028 Olympics altogether. It'd be very difficult for the athletes who are preparing for it, but it's the ethical thing to do. Or simply transfer it to whoever was the runner up in the location competition. Very short notice to prepare, but it'd still be better than inflicting the US on a bunch of innocent people from abroad.

That's my baseline: basic civil rights, a living wage, and everyone (as in EVERYONE no matter how rich you are) is equal under the law. Cherry on top would be that no matter what church you attend or whether you attend no church at all, you keep your nose out of everyone else's private (legal) business.

Buttigieg is one of the best communicators I've ever heard, he always nails the point perfectly. The bottom line here is that it is nobody's business WHY a person might decide to have an abortion at any point during their pregnancy. There should be no more blame or shame in the decision than there is for a person having any sort of medical procedure. Do we ask heart patients WHY they're getting a shunt or a pace maker? Or WHY someone is getting an appendectomy? Not. Our. Business.

... and spotted the cougar. I've never seen a group of people go so stone silent so rapidly. It's also amazing how quiet people can be while walking quickly when they concentrate. I watched the cougar for a little while longer (it was napping off lunch, the remains of which were above it in the tree), then made my way back to the car.

I feel your pain; I retired last year after teaching for a state university for almost 40 years. My main subject was networking infrastructure and my main course had two required research papers in the curriculum. The overall quality of the writing for those papers took a fairly sharp drop in quality when ChatGPT appeared. Students would often purchase the textbook only in the final week of class before taking the final. And don't get me started on simple grammar...

A lot of hearing aids cost more than that. The last time we took my dad in for new hearing aids, the kind that actually help him (not just making sounds louder) cost $7000 and that's not including all of the special tinkering the audiologist has to do to fine tune the things.

I know that several of my adult students (~ 40+) have gotten the Shingrex, so at least in NM (US) Walgreens doesn't seem to be too picky. Speaking for myself, I had chicken pox as a kid, pre-vaccine, so I know I'm a candidate for getting shingles.

At least in NM, you can schedule a shingles vaccination at any Walgreens, I got mine last year. When I was filling out the form to schedule the shots, I didn't see any questions about age so I'm not sure if it's seniors only.

Just... no. Absolutely cannot abide 'runny' eggs. They have to be fluffy (a touch of milk while whisking) and perhaps just a teeny bit browned just before turning them onto the plate. Bacon should be thin and crispy. Toast should be deep brown with lots of butter. If I want to go hog wild, I'll add a dollop of salsa on the eggs.
But 'creamy'? 😬

I've consistently arisen around 7AM for many years. I think my body clock is stuck there, I used to get up for work at 7AM but now that I work remotely, I still get up at the same time. Now getting ready takes some work for me as I like to have a shower every morning but also have dry skin which takes a little time to fix, so I'm ready to go out the door in about an hour and a half. Also when you get old things go wonky (don't talk to me about eyebrows!) and may need fixing.

Like yourself, I'm very pro-nature myself but prefer not to sleep or eat out in the middle of it. There are no comfortable chairs and entirely too many flying bitey thingies.
