The #Continuwuity #Matrix server has just hit 1,000 stars! I can't thank everyone enough for the constant support of the project, from code, documentation and moderation to guides and recommendations. Here's to another thousand, and to another 18 months of awesome.

Continuwuity 26.6.0, the lightweight Matrix chat server, is finally out! This is by far our largest release ever yet! There are so many incredible improvements in this release, and there's never been a better time to get started!

I can't even check because my version seems to crash on opening `Version 2.11.9+fork.110.moshinda-nightly+@2026-06-04
org.joinmastodon.android.moshinda.nightly`. lmao if you need more debug info than that

I've just released the [resolvematrix](https://forgejo.ellis.link/continuwuation/resolvematrix ) Rust crate! If you're developing anything in Rust that interacts with the matrix federation APIs, you may find it useful - it's factored out of one of my other projects for reuse

We've just released [Continuwuity](https://continuwuity.org/ ) [v0.5.5](https://forgejo.ellis.link/continuwuation/continuwuity/releases/tag/v0.5.5 ). Continuwuity is a chat server for communities that speaks Matrix - and as you can probably guess we've exploded in popularity over the past week or two. The amount of people in our community rooms doubled!
This release is mostly about bugfixes, but there are two things to get excited about. The first is that the last blocker for calling in the Element X mobile apps has been squished! If you've set up the prerequisite service, you can now make calls from your phone.
The other is that we've greatly improved the first run experience - registering a first account is easier, and contexual help is presented where possible.
I would heavily encourage reading the changelog, and upgrading. Again, welcome to all of our new community members!

For those of you that don't know, I develop https://continuwuity.org - a Rust based Matrix homeserver that actually works, and that you can run on a Raspberry Pi, rather than someone else's centralized cloud infrastructure

The pricing comparisons are stupid, by the way, too - a bunch of us in the matrix chatrooms got out how many HTTP requests per day we were serving and the per-request cost of Workers would be more expensive than dedicated VPSs - not even counting CPU time or storage costs!

Honestly this is almost insulting to me, as someone who has spent a nontrivial amount of effort developing a Matrix homeserver, with how low effort it is. And what’s the point? Marketing? I’m not gonna be trusting anything Cloudflare after this.

Oh and to top things off, they make trivially false claims in their post. Tuwunel and its predecessors do not and have never used Postgres or Redis.

Rather than implementing the critical state resolution algorithm that's the core of Matrix, they just directly insert the latest state into the database. That'll instantly lead to diverging views of the room and incompatibility with every other implementation - and it's also a massive security hole.

This is a core part of the protocol, that's not exactly simple (https://spec.matrix.org/v1.17/server-server-api/#authorization-rules)
They just have TODO comments, and happily accept anything, even if it's blatantly forged

Let me just pick a few examples from the code, because this is so bad

2026-01-27 15:34:23 GMT

Cloudflare just published a vibe coded blog post claiming they implemented Matrix on cloudflare workers. They didn't, their post and README is AI generated and the code doesn't do any of the core parts of matrix that make it secure and interoperable. Instead it's littered with 'TODO: Check authorisation' and similar
