Mom says he gets to go home today. He seems to be doing much better today. Now begins the arduous task of keeping him still for the next 2 weeks for it to heal in place. He has dementia so that will add to her struggle with this.

The er doctor says his heart is struggling and his rates are fluctuating. They're talking about a pacemaker. They're waiting on the heart doctor. He's 94. He's my last grandparent.

This particular ferry had been in operation since time immemorial. There was an indoor portion but it was no prize. There was a little counter for coffees and hot chocolates. It was part of the experience of going to visit the haunted house on the other side of the river.

2026-10-29 13:57:08 GMT

@nprofile…zhvg I just discovered that the 1 ferry I remember from my childhood was shut down in 2011 because the river flooded and they never reopened it because there was a bridge not far away. I'm really sad now. (There are still 5 ferries in operation in Louisiana though.)

We had one of those big donut magnets that they use to take the security tags on clothes off. My baby brother put it on the corner and it made a huge donut shaped spot on the tv. He turned off the tv and hid the magnet. My parents didn't notice for like a month.

I do this too. And if I feel like I need to be there more for someone, I try to give them a plant.

2026-10-27 15:47:21 GMT

Because I've had folks seem surprised when I tell them you should never thank someone for a gifted plant, I'm passing on the lore here.
You should always just say something like "I hope I can care for this until it blooms" or "what a gorgeous cutting/bloom/plant youve shared with me!"
Thanking them for the plant ensures it will wither. Because sharing a plant, especially a cutting or bulb, is an act of community. They aren't giving it to you for praise. They're giving it to you for connection.
