I absolutely hate this capitalistic view of Open Source, the saying "We do whatever we want, it's Open Source anyway".
This leads to philosophies like "Let's rewrite this entire thing our way, and put some marketing on it, this will destroy the previous project and deny the work of all its contributors, but hey, it's Open Source".
Or even "Let's take this entire project, add our brand, put some glitter and marketing on it, and sell it, without giving any fucks to its maintainers".
Hate them.

@npub1jpp…u59l @npub13w7…mktw @npub10rh…6hem It might be depending on countries, culture, or maybe I'm just evolving in a world of companies wanting to host their apps "the old way" without complex cloud infrastructures?
(The closest to "cloud computing" I've seen is PaaS like Heroku or Platform.sh, and I have a few months on AWS 10 years ago, but what I mostly see is just about VPSes or dedicated servers, so I might be highly biased on this :/ )

Honest question: do you find *actual* use-cases for Rust in companies that don't involve blockchain/cryptos/cyber-security and that can be related to the "good'ol" web apps we've been doing for the past 20 years?
I mean, if we gotta replace PHP with Rust, it's probably not that bad, but if your use-cases are far from the common Web industry, it's another subject 🤔

@npub1wjw…ue5t I'd be glad to work on a desktop app! I mean, with solutions like Tauri, it's amazingly easy these days! Only desktop-specific issues are to be fixed when compared to web-based (like connection loss, data synchronization, etc), and it's way easier than before ):

@npub1jpp…u59l that's what I'm using and it definitely is great because I got everything from phpstorm, webstorm, and I also have Rust, Go and many others. Everything provided as plugins from the marketplace.

@npub1jpp…u59l if it was just about syntax highlighting, I'd recommend you change your jetbrains subscription to use intellij idea ultimate, it contains pretty much all plugins for all languages from all other jetbrains IDEs. The only missing thing is the compilation tools from clion and resharper, but most of the rest is still available

@npub1jpp…u59l It's because a nap shouldn't be about falling asleep, but making sure your entire body can rest for 20-30 minutes, and your mind can wander as far as it need for this period of time.
Nap and sleep are not the same at all.
Usually, for a nap to be "useful", it's better to have *some* activity around, but something calmly repetitive (like napping in a car, train, plane or bus) or specifically made to relax (some kinds of music)
You can't nap if you're lying in bed with 21°C and no light

I've been working on a "complete app rewrite that turns out to be a new infrastructure sleekly integrating the legacy app but with a super easy way to migrate to new components" mission for the past six months, and I'm so proud of the architecture I created, the way the team understands it perfectly and is totally able to manage it without my help now 🥹
I can't wait for them to migrate old components to new ones, it's gonna be GREAT.
Next mission: another complete application rewrite 💪
