@nprofile…7laa In Italian, the extracted "go to" (translated as "vai a") is often used, in this truncated form, for an informal phrase. So you solicit someone to just "go to" and cut off the following "fuck off" that's typically implied.

@nprofile…m33g Many communities that aren't built with diversity and inclusion in their main goal maybe have that effect.
The leading figures start exerting their lead role through arrogance, and they feel to be leaders only overwhelming the other adepts. They misinterpret this effect for authority, which they never learn about, but it's still suggested by an inner circle of closer sycophants.
This is particolarly pernicious within groups about some "good" habit (freedom, ecologism, etc.)

@nprofile…d0yj Personally, HP is the first manufacturer I avoid, since they install a corporate spyware (logging your activity to be sent to HP) as a set of "system drivers", that keep being reinstalled on every (unattended) update.
On a work desktop, that's being assigned to me, I created a scheduled script to regularly uninstall them.

@nprofile…vf35 I had one after lunch today, in a seaside restaurant. Not as good as my mother's ones, who boosts them with Marsala wine, instead of the typical coffee: that's the "real" tiramisu for me. I just have to ask my elderly mother to make one.

@nprofile…29up The memory rush has been run for too long. Now everyone runs "elegant" languages, paradigms, frameworks, all hiding an explosive complexity for the tiniest things.
When I run a fancy terminal pager from the command line it takes now nearly 15 MiB on disk, several tens in running memory. A similar application in 1990s took a few tens of KiBs. In 1980s a Basic interpreter could run off 1 KiB of RAM. But now we have a spectrum of functions and complexity we deem vital, inevitable.

@nprofile…7laa Don't worry. That time I wrote a comment on Mastodon with a very dry, correct and objective tone I've been suspected to be an AI.
Now I can only resort to my usual grammar errors, to show as human. And happily be appointed as an incredibly ignorant fleshbag.

@nprofile…l90m I'd not buy an electric car, even if I'm European. And not because I don't care for climate. I also like the idea of electric cars, and would love to drive one.
Simply put, I'd have no charge port. There aren't even too many around here. And since Italy is dependent on oil, gas (and even coal) to produce energy, I'd probably won't contribute enough to reduce carbon footprint.
But I'd contribute emptying my wallet, with the increased price of energy and low wages.

@nprofile…3q9y That's the opposite direction in respect to the invention of money itself.
Existence of money is the key to divide people between richness and poverty. If you let anyone live a decent life, regardless of money, then money looses its meaning.

@nprofile…gj0l I imagine that the christian holiday went mixed with a an already present ritual over there. By those times religions and conquers were surely predating existing deities and rituals, to be accepted like "how do you call it? Easter, Eostre, ostrich, allright, is the same of ours, trust me. Now let's talk again of that gold"

@nprofile…29up Patent trolls should be suppressed, declaring their practices socially harmful and their societies unlawful in states. But how to do that in the real world?
It's hard to put limits on what's a legal patent request.
I remember reading how Cuba declared unenforceable the patents on life saving medicines (or something like that). But you see how it ends.

@nprofile…5uqu Needs to be reminded because we have a daily narration, about everything, that teaches everyone to find "defects" in irrelevant details. It's easier to comment on a funny hat than to debate the ideas in the head under the hat.
I'm always proud to be extremely critical of someone's views (and being a misanthropist it happens quite often) and at the same time find amazing ideas we share, or have a quiet chat on another subject.
When this doesn't happen it's the other one's choice.

@nprofile…vegs It keeps being unusual to me, here in Italy, how a caffè latte is liked in an after lunch, everywhere else in the world. Here, drank hot, it is one of the "ritual" beverages of the early morning. You don't see often a "cappuccino" (the name of it with foamed milk) consumed after noon, and when a friend has it you think "poor thing, must have had an insomniac night and tries to cheer up!"
😀
That said, I'm the first one to think that no food has any special or "reserved" use 😉

@nprofile…la7y I'm old enough to remember many other cases of "export of democracy". No surprise that they all came from the same country.
Now, given the last result from democracy, in the proposing country, a good question would go like "then we should change our imposed autocracy with a system that let's us all vote to choose a people elected autocracy?"

@nprofile…la7y Clearly it's more complex than that.
Reasonably, each and every politician who could act against, is steerable. There's been built, year after year, an intricate network of relationships. Their caste fears retortion and a fall, if anyone still strongly supported (economy, finance, etc.) is hold accountable for crimes involving many subjects of the caste.
Before the politicians, is the methology that gained acceptance by fooled citizens.
Even jailing them today will need decades to fix.

@nprofile…x9tq Don't take me wrong, but maybe from Europe we simply didn't hate a nation which had its reasons to commit suicide. We never thought that England was willing to be european, maybe Scotland, surely Ireland, don't know about Wales. Beside exporters of goods to UK, maybe europeans just ignored UK since then.
This a totally personal and unfounded opinion, without any resentment.

@nprofile…44dh That's enchanting, but I don't think it's been all planned. The large investments on data centers in themselves, would already be something that you can't replicate locally, not just in computing power, but also in data collection capabilities.
From there on it's just the old advertisement/manipulation scheme, updated with new tools and new invasive methods.
The "new" part is just around fooling users into another addictive and compulsory behavior, to feed the same old billionaries.

@nprofile…jydu That would bring up a million of lines, linked to a dozen of larger libraries, that in the end work only in a properly configured virtual environment.
IMHO any fun and clear didactics has ended since almost thirty years.
