The issue of loneliness has solutions but I feel like when people feel alone they're easily swayed into joining groups that lack of social cohesion invites and encourages. White supremacy groups, trad culture, manosphere, Reform/Restore if you want a more socially acceptable type of fascism.

Will they fix it? Many entry-level jobs simply no longer exist and you also need to make sure that both work will be worth something which isn't what they're getting and also that their training will result in work which is shrinking with AI plaguing every stage of the process of getting work if the work even exists.

I feel it would be a waste, lot of potential in investing in things that are eventually left to rot due to underfunding which does typify London's small tithes they give to the hinterlands sometimes. It would be a good idea in principle but they'd need to commit to several decades of upkeep and useful facility to the communities these venues are built in.

Is it? It's only a good step if it's purely optional and opportunities are made available that actually accommodate for disabilities. Most folk don't want the insistence of work even on a voluntary basis because it's a reminder of the constant push to get them into work they've been experiencing since they were first diagnosed.

Seems like the same logic DWP runs on where there's constant need to confirm and qualify for things in case you're one of those blaggers. What exactly a SEN child or teen is trying to scam is unclear but the government has this pathological need to make sure the process is onerous and draining enough that people drop out from the process or don't even try. The core is just an exercise in reducing the budget because that's all it ever is, appeasing beancounters who only want to see a budget used "correctly" regardless of the human cost.

The fear isn't from the silence itself but the lack of noise and how chilling hearing nothing can be, disaster may have happened.

The potential of a civil war has been one of the key aspects to the architects of Project 2025, think of it as the fully metastasised form of the "culture war" ongoing in the US. The core purpose is to purge what they see as liberal bastions of the country corrupting their pure ways, to make the white homogenous Christian patriarchal society they want a reality. There's also ego, bloodthirst and revenge involved but generally the idea is to punish and kill those who oppose them.

Russian money pays Farage well, it also pays certain sections of the media well enough to bolster Farage's message which is Russia's message. They got a success with the rise of UKIP from minority isolationist party to thought leaders, didn't even need to win because their ideas became reality and showed how misinformation can be power.
Now there's far-right reactionary parties making huge gains in several democratic countries or indeed winning to the degree that it feels silly to not see the correlation in the rise of fascism being an engineered one.

Having to deal with the DWP in the last few weeks makes me think they really do not want us at the bottom having too much money even if that "too much" is anything above a mere £16k. They could just not pay out to these corporations for one hour and make that back but you know how it is, the poor cannot handle money so must be scrutinised down to the penny in case their pittance pay isn't being spent in the places it should be.

I feel like there's a lot of variables including increased awareness of mental health issues that go into it, principal among much of it is capitalism's overwhelming need to define one's worth by their work to the point their lives are constantly about how much they made, usually for someone else. Lack of third places (or second places if you're WFH full-time) are also a problem but I'm not sure it's something you can legislate into getting fixed, it's cultural as well.

Wonder if this'll be attributed to "quiet quitting" which is literally just doing exactly what the job demands in the time allocated to it, no overtime and no extra work. They're trying to make employment numbers go up but they think removing the social safety nets are the way to do it and automating various entry level jobs won't lead to higher unemployment forcing them into the precarious gig economy which is barely making a living for those engaged with it besides the wealthy elites running the gigs.

Nostalgia for... 2020? I mean, I do feel some nostalgia but context is important for what exactly is being missed. People will always look back on the past as some preferable place to be, it's what makes humans immensely sentimental to a fault.
Point is though that 2020 was a hugely different year than many before it, one that threatened to change a lot about how we lived (maybe for the better) until the push to "normal" started because profit wasn't high enough for the corporatocracy. As such things went to shit in that race back to "normal" and now we're here in 2025 wishing for the quiet panic of 2020.

Patriotism and "big tent" politics are rarely going to work for a left-leaning party as those two things will include some conservative voters who'll want their position seen and as such they'll bring them into a more centrist position. Nice if you want to win but you won't be able to effect the sort of change you want. One may ask if those with opposing viewpoints don't consider us to have a humanity equal to theirs why that should be tolerated. Did they earn compassion where we didn't? It's more complex and runs directly into the tolerance of intolerance issue. Brownfield redevelopment is good, just I feel like "new housing" isn't the solution because you can't build new houses forever. Are most of the properties going to follow the same path as other developments and sit empty as they're seen as investments and not places to live?
