I don’t think I understand the meaning of “cease fire.” Or “human rights.” Or “war crimes.” Or a whole lot of other things I learned in my International Criminal Law class. I also don’t understand why so many countries/humans are content on the sidelines. #WeAreTheWorld?

I know this isn’t an original thought, but I need to scream into the void and my hubbie/kids/dog are tired of me: why TF are any journalists of any integrity attending the #WhiteHouseCorrespondentsDinner tonight?
Obviously, there’s the question of integrity. There’s another about what it means to be a #journalist vs a #correspondent, given some of the invitees. And there are fame chasers who will abase themselves for the angry orange and ask for another one.
But, it’s SO sad. 🙄🤯🤬

Just a note to remind you that the law requiring ALL of the #epsteinfiles to be produced had a December 19 mandatory deadline. Compliance is still less than 1% complete. An illegal coup, an illegal kidnapping of another world leader, more bombings in another country, a few not-quite-cops shooting civilians, and whatever other random crazy they’re throwing at the wall are doing a nice job of keeping that story out of the headlines. Those files must be juicy…

I’m not aiming to incite. My point, to quote from the music of my childhood, is that we are all brothers, sisters, cousins, aunts, uncles, parents, grandparents, friends, neighbors, and should unite in the same goal of peaceful (non-violent) resistance in the face of unlawful government actions. It shouldn’t be left only to moms or dads or second cousins twice removeds because of a catchy slogan.

Even better idea?: Wall of Compassionate Humans - or some other inclusive title
I’m not sure parenting is a requirement. Sure, it has a nice ring to it for PR purposes, but the point (for me) isn’t the PR. I’d drive up to protect people older than myself, not out of maternal instinct, but out of moral imperative. And, when it comes to the need to #resist the more the merrier…

the number of academics who have been “turned in” or fired for speech on social media- not even in the classroom- is staggering. Why universities are helping the administration with this nonsense is so far beyond me…

I’m reading the book referenced here, “Defying Hitler,” an autobiography by pseudonymous Sebastian Haffner about his experiences as a child in Germany in WWI through the rise of the Nazis, focusing on 1933. It articulates many of my feelings about modern USA. I hear the dehumanizing and violent rhetoric, otherization, and lawful reversal of rights. I see the complacency and mass mindset. Read it! Be prepared for your character tests. Wow.
