The math looks different for the people who were lucky enough to secure a 2.5% fixed rate mortgage when rates were that low. The interest in their loan balance will never outpace the rate of inflation that their equity acts as a hedge against. They got the bank to put up money that's worth more today for something that provides their most essential need, shelter, and acts as a hedge against future inflation while they pay money that's worth less and less in the future. Given the growth in government debt and the growth in M2 that will be required to stabilize it even a 5.5% mortgage will probably do this over the next 30 years.
Yeah I agree. I look at my garden as investment because it's a productive use of land, but it's not profitable. I don't because grocery store tomatoes suck.
Nevertheless, growing food on land you-co-own it's a bank feels nice, but the bank owns it, not the "homeowners."
Even if you pay off your mortgage, you have to pay ~~rent to the government~~ property taxes.

It's been thoroughly discussed. Minds are made up. The big corporate mining cartel doesn't appear to be on board unless they start signaling when the signaling period kicks in in about 7 hours. Roughly 20% of network nodes are going to end up forking off on their own chain by rejecting blocks with data transactions. That chain will inherit the current difficulty but with a fraction of the hashrate so it will only be producing a few blocks a day until the difficulty adjustment. It's going to be interesting to watch.
