It started as a purely ideological issue of Marxist whites against other whites, agreed. It became additionally a race issue because the Marxists used race politics to dilute and destroy their conservative opponents.
While white communists are the most rabid and delusional of all, at least in the USA whites and ONLY whites vote majority conservative as a block. In an overly democratic system like our modern one, that ends up turning the ideological issue INTO a race one.

That's the first thing I thought, if we mean censorship. There's still a cultural influence though, which used to vary on centralized websites, often depending on the preferences of moderators. Now the influence is decentralized and non-moderated; it's no longer a bunch of unrelated websites with different vibes.
I still think that both are inevitable: "wrong" people will come here AND will be naturally + algorithmically segregated too (while many of us will ignore all this and will keep building natural connections and ignore toxic in whatever way influence).
Still super hot here, everything is struggling to survive. But we are well, just chugging along😊.
