I did a similar bit of maths around my way the other day. About 30 years ago at a basic working wage it would take 14 hours a week work to rent a room, so about 2.85 hours work a day on a 5 day week. Just a shade under 3 hours per day. Fast forward 30 years and it's about 11.8 hours, so about 2.36 hours a day on a 5 day a week job.
The numbers have gone up but bizarrely it's actually cheaper to rent now than it was when I entered the workforce.
Doesn't feel that way, but it is.
