This is why I voted for a swiss government digital ID. Not because I need it. But for everyone that wants to use a digital ID to get a publicly issued one from the government. Not from the surveillance companies trying to replace government bit for bit without any democratic influence on their actions.

I agree. I am happy to be able to interact with those protocols. Gives me a place of huge freedom. And I agree, that as more dificult it gets to be free in the real world, the more peoplemare willing to invest their time to learn those protocols eventually.

That is true of absolutely every form of custodial Bitcoin, not just ecash. They are all IOUs. However, I wouldn't say "you might as well use Zcash" or some other shitcoin, because at least you still have the ability to interact with the Bitcoin network through your custodian.
Self-custody is always the ideal, though, and we should push all who have even a hint of friction tolerance toward it. We should also be focused on more ways to remove as much friction as possible from self-custody.
