Only those who love their enemies are children of God. Nonviolent enemy love is what sets Christianity apart from other religions. Unfortunately, this command is not obeyed by many Christians. "You have heard that it was said, 'Love your neighbor and hate your enemy.' But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you, that you may be children of your Father in heaven. He causes his sun to rise on the evil and the good, and sends rain on the righteous and the unrighteous. If you love those who love you, what reward will you get? Are not even the tax collectors doing that? And if you greet only your own people, what are you doing more than others? Do not even pagans do that? Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect. Ever heard of Occam's Razor? Paul's conversion is documented in his own writings and the New Testament, which indicate a rational and coherent thought process. There is no evidence that he was mentally ill. There were many witnesses to who claimed to have seen the risen Jesus. The vast majority of historians accept as fact that the disciples believed Jesus had appeared to them, which led to their bold proclamations that He had risen from the dead. It would be a far greater miracle for entire groups of people in different mental states to undergo shared hallucinations on different occasions, in different places, and for different reasons. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion Jesus' tomb was empty. Also, it's irrational to reject the Bible or other religious texts as a valid source for evidence. Paul's conversion is evidence for the resurrection. He persecuted and killed many Christians, but converted after he claimed to meet Jesus on the way to Damascus. He was eventually martyred. What could possibly explain his conversion? Jesus was buried in a tomb. If he resurrected, we would expect that his body would not remain in the tomb, which is what was discovered on the Sunday morning after the Crucifixion. If Jesus' body was still in the tomb on the Day of Pentecost when Peter preached in Jerusalem, the Jewish leaders could have just grabbed Peter and taken him to the tomb to show that Jesus was in still in the tomb. Instead, the Jewish leaders invented the idea that the disciples stole the body. The Christian church rests on the resurrection of Jesus. Christianity would never have been able to get started if Jesus had not risen from the dead. Despite persecution the early Christian movement grew rapidly. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion What does this have to do with the resurrection of Jesus? npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion The ontological argument is only meant to provide evidence for the existence of a maximally great being. It doesn't identify that specific being. There is evidence for the resurrection of Jesus (the empty tomb, Jesus' postmortem appearances, Paul's conversion, James' conversion etc.). npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion It may not be possible to prove God's existence like one proves a scientific fact, but it is more rational to believe in God's existence since it is based on evidence. Here's the ontological argument: God is defined as a maximally great being. 1. It is possible that a Maximally Great Being exists. 2. A Maximally Great Being exists in some possible world. 3. If a Maximally Great Being exists in some possible world, then it exists in every possible world. 4. If a Maximally Great Being exists in every possible world, then it exists in the actual world. 5. A Maximally Great Being exists in the actual world. 6. And the devil took him up and showed him all the kingdoms of the world in a moment of time, and said to him, "To you I will give all this authority and their glory, for it has been delivered to me, and I give it to whom I will. If you, then, will worship me, it will all be yours." And Jesus answered him, "It is written, "'You shall worship the Lord your God, and him only shall you serve.'" (Luke 4:5-8) Satan's offer of political power was a temptation. A temptation implies that what is tempting is wrong. Therefore, forcefully controlling other people through the system of government and political power is wrong. The fact that Jesus needed to resist political power means that even the most perfect human had political power, it would still be considered evil. This temptation was from Satan, which meant that Satan wanted Jesus to wield political power. Satan wants people to have political power and he tempts people to obtain it. The conditions for obtaining political power are to worship and serve Satan. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion Statism is a religion that tries to justify theft, slavery, murder, and much more. https://m.primal.net/HINP.png npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion #note132t…qlr5 I doubt that the Bible ever claims that the specific 66 books, or however many books are in your Bible, are the words of God. The Bible was written by men. They may have been inspired but they were not infallible. Also, there was never a universal consensus on what the contents of the Bible should be. In fact, for nearly 400 years, the early Church did not have an official canon of scripture. Different denominations have different canons. Why place trust in the authority of those who determined what constitutes scripture and what does not? What if they left writings out or included writings in error? How can we be sure that they were infallible in their process? Scripture has always been a process. There have always been additions made as well as pruning at times. I don't believe that the Bible is a perfect revelation of God; however, I do believe that it infallibly points us to Jesus and should be read through the lens of Jesus. I believe that while the Old Testament authors attempted to understand God, they were often mistaken. Christ's own disciples misunderstood God the majority of the time. For the law was given through Moses; grace and truth came through Jesus Christ. No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is himself God and is in closest relationship with the Father, has made him known. (John 1:17-18 NIV) If the Old Testament authors have never seen God (because only Jesus makes him known), then it makes sense that their depictions of Him would sometimes be incorrect. Jesus Christ, after whom our religion is named, is how we truly know what God is like. The Old Testament must be read through the lens of Jesus. Leo Tolstoy said in The Gospel in Brief: 'They all employ one and the same gross method of affirming, the truth of their interpretations by the assertion that their interpretations are not human utterances but revelations from the Holy Ghost. Without entering on an examination of these beliefs, each of which calls itself the true one, one cannot help seeing that by the method common to them all of acknowledging the whole immense quantity of so-called scriptures of the Old and New Testament as equally sacred, they themselves impose an insuperable obstacle to an understanding of Christ's teaching; and that from this mistake arises the possibility and inevitability of endlessly divergent interpretations of the teaching. The reconcilement of a number of revelations can be infinitely varied, but the interpretation of the teaching of one person (and one looked upon as God) should not occasion discord. If God descended to earth to teach people, his teaching, by the very purpose of his coming, cannot be understood in more than one way. If God came down to earth to reveal truth to men, at least he would have revealed it so that all might understand: if he did not do that he was not God; and if the divine truths are such that even God could not make them intelligible to mankind, men certainly cannot do so. If Jesus is not God, but a great man, then still less can his teaching produce discord. For the teaching of a great man is only great because it expresses intelligibly and clearly what others have expressed unintelligibly and obscurely. What is incomprehensible in a great man's teaching is not great, and therefore a great man's teaching does not engender sects. Only an exposition which affirms that it is a revelation from the Holy Ghost and is the sole truth, and that all other expositions are lies, gives birth to discord and to the mutual animosities among the Churches that result therefrom.' npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion The majority of scholars agree that Paul did not write 2 Timothy. The word God-breathed only appears once in the Bible. In the Old Testament, the concept of God breathing has always refers to giving or sustaining life (Genesis 7:15, 22; Job 27:3-4, 33:4; Isaiah 42:5). In Genesis, God breathed into Adam the breath of life (Genesis 2:7). Just because scripture is God breathed doesn't mean that it is infallible. Also, the author's understanding of scripture would have included different versions of books we consider scripture and also other books that we don't consider scripture. So if 2 Timothy 3:16 was saying that all scripture is infallible, then that would have to mean that the later additions we made to the Old Testament are not scripture and that books that he considered scripture that are not in our Bibles are scripture. Additionally, at the time of writing 2 Timothy, the New Testament didn't exist yet. Not even the real Paul would have been thinking of his letters as being scripture. For him, there was no reason to turn letters into scripture. Often letters contain material that is local and situational. There is no evidence that he knew that he was writing letters that would one day be called scripture by men four centuries in the future. There is no evidence in the Bible to suggest that the Bible is the Word of God. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion I agree with all of your assertions. However, I don't believe that the Bible is the Word of God or that it is infallible. In this article you said: 'The bible describes itself as being alive.' According to John 1, Jesus is the Word of God. The Bible never claims to be the Word of God and it would make more sense to interpret Hebrews 4:12 as referring to Jesus, as the Bible is neither living nor active, and it lacks the ability to judge the thoughts and attitudes of the heart, in contrast to Jesus who embodies all of these qualities. https://peakd.com/christianity/@creatr/the-shocking-truth-about-the-bible npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion https://m.primal.net/HICg.png #memes npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion The Bible having contradictions doesn't make Christianity any less true. If the government does what the majority wants, then they would be oppressing minorities. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion I believe that there will be a bodily resurrection of the dead on a renewed and restored earth. Everyone will rise again. Those who are saved will be raised to life to live physically on Earth for all eternity. Those who are not saved will experience judgement and perish (their souls will be destroyed). npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion This does not address eternal life or the afterlife. Things will change when God renews the earth. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion I do believe in eternal/everlasting life but I don't believe that it means heaven. I believe that we were made for physical existence. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion Sorry, my bad. Where is the evidence for your beliefs about the afterlife? npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion If it isn't in Scripture, where is the evidence? npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion Subscribed https://open.spotify.com/show/0f4Ke6gRTiLij0455nQjPH?si=4Z_xoHc3QV-2ZXxbK1Z20Q #nevent1q…93kt npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion Does forgiveness require payment, or is it free? npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion My concern is not that the Bible has been tampered with, but rather the human limitations and interpretations that could affect its accuracy. The authors would have tried to understand God but they aren't perfect. The intellectuals who study the authenticity of the historical documents are fallible. If you owe someone a debt, and that debt is paid by a third party, then that debt is never forgiven at all. God doesn't need someone to pay off debt to forgive. He can simply forgive. That's what true forgiveness is. There is no payment in forgiveness. If Jesus died in our place, then he would have suffered the punishment that comes as a result of sin, which is death (Romans 6:23). So he either died physically or spiritually. If he died physically so that we would not die physically, then why do people still suffer physically death? The other option is spiritual death which is likely the type of death Paul was talking about. Obviously Jesus didn't die spiritually. Therefore, he did not die in our place. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion Where does Scripture say this? npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion I believe that the Bible isn't infallible. All authorityi has been given to Jesus. Salvation is more about being saved from an old way of life into a new way of life than it is about the afterlife. Jesus didn't pay for our sins, he forgave our sins. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion This story is much more than a test of faith. Abraham didn't even question God's order or hesitate to carry it out. In the time Abraham lived, all the pagan gods demanded child sacrifice. God stopping Abraham from killing his son shows that He was different from all the other gods. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion One does not have to believe in the infallibility of the Bible or that Jesus died just to pay for our sins to be a Christian. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion Jesus Christ is my lord and saviour. npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion If nobody went to heaven before Jesus, where did they go? Our hope is a physical resurrection of the body. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. But Christ has indeed been raised from the dead, the firstfruits of those who have fallen asleep. (1 Corinthians 15:16-20) Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." (John 11:24) npub1w695k9y6pv0fa5fz4xsljpnk4w5zk83xcmm92zt4dhzdtfl7waqsdz4wwu vestion Everlasting life does not mean that we get to go to heaven when we die. The dead will be resurrected. For if the dead are not raised, then Christ has not been raised either. And if Christ has not been raised, your faith is futile; you are still in your sins. Then those also who have fallen asleep in Christ are lost. If only for this life we have hope in Christ, we are of all people most to be pitied. (1 Corinthians 15:16-20) Martha answered, "I know he will rise again in the resurrection at the last day." No one has ever gone into heaven except the one who came from heaven—the Son of Man.
