I'm planning on painting a little series of cats soon(ish) :blobcat:
If you would like to see me make a painting of your cat or a friend's cat, either normally or as a fantasy-cat (I have some cute ideas but suggestions for fantasy-cats are also welcome), send me a picture (or a few).

or: "how to use a dozen eggs" (the pound cake takes 12 yolks and the angel food cake takes 12 whites)
Against my better judgement, I followed the recipes, but I think it was a mistake with the angel food cake. "Ungreased pan" and "immediately invert the pan" I think caused the disaster shown in the photo (the part that floofed up was squished when it was inverted, and half of the cake got stuck in the pan - though I did manage to get that part out whole!), but I covered it with a mascarpone-whip-cream frosting and it tastes lovely, so it's not a complete failure :blobcatdance:
The pound cake had a nice texture but was a little dry - I think maybe replacing the cup of water with a cup of milk next time might do the trick? :blobthinking: And chocolate on top of that one because it seemed like a good idea at the time (it was in fact a good idea) :blobcatdance:

@npub1mtk…ka52 Well, it was definitely over-ripe but it wasn't mushy or anything, just huge. It'd be cool if I could get orange cucumbers but I think it was just because it was left out for a long time before I noticed it lol (I'm saving the seeds anyway, so we'll see what happens)
Orange eggplant! :blobeyes: I got a few small eggplant last year but none germinated for me this year (and I don't like it as much as other veggies anyway, so I didn't really mind lol).

Oh, most of my potato plants have been dying off for a while now (there's one row that's still hanging on, but they're basically done). However, I found a couple of potato plants that popped up in last year's potato bed so I might have a few surprise potatoes later this autumn. Didn't you plant a lot of potatoes? What kind(s) did you plant?

Aw, sad, did you end up getting any before the frost? There've been some cool nights here that have killed a few of my cucumber plants but the other squashes are alright (for now). I just found out a week ago that I have at least one pumpkin :blobaww: but I'm not sure how much time we'll have before it's too cold here :cryingcat:
On that topic, though - here's some giant cucumbers (I failed to notice that they were growing into the grass and... well that giant ORANGE one tipped me off, and then I found more... :blobeyes:)

Four or five years ago, I got two "sweet peas" plants from Home Depot (I know, I know). I don't know what the heck they were selling, but these are EVIL EVIL PEAS. There were only two the first year, but ever since there are TONS of them. They keep coming back every year, crawling around and popping out in new places like they're some sort of mint, making tall shoots and beautiful flowers and HORRIBLE DRIED PEAS that are never edible :pepereeeee: I let them grow and flower twice because the bees liked them but have tried to kill them ever since and THEY WILL NOT BE DESTROYED. If they weren't in a bed (no - TWO of the beds now), ... :fire:

I started... a lot of tomatoes. 89/100 cells of san marzano and romas germinated, transplanted to pots, and were transplanted outside when it was warm enough. A few of them didn't make it, but most of them did and more than a few of those had two plants in one cell/pot (I didn't kill off the smaller ones in a cell/pot "like you're supposed to"). There are also 10 cherry tomato plants (again, multiples in a pot, so more than 10 but it was 10 pots). Most of them are very happy :blobcatdance: One bed seems to have been attacked by some sort of mold/ fungus but it looks like the plants are recovering. There's also some basil, oregano, sage, some mints, etc growing around there... and a LOT of borage (which is very pretty) to keep the tomato hornworms away :blobcatdance:
:blobcatdance: I WILL HAVE ALL THE TOMATOES MWHAHAHA :blobcatdance:
OH and two (romas or san marzano) tomato plants that I took cuttings from last year and kept indoors all winter, growing all weird and spindly, are somehow alive and well outside! :blobeyes:

I was serious about letting the weeds in the onions/garlic get out of hand (I mean, it's mostly grass around it, but it's been very rainy and it just kinda took off) :cryingcat: The onions are doing fine though! Some of my onions that survived from last year's poor growth (not pictured) are also still alive and flowering! :blobcatdance:

And since your weather/ growing area seems similar: Do you start onion seeds (for the next year) in the ground in the fall (when if so), or do you start them indoors in something and transfer them out in the spring, or something else?

Until then... here are some more recent pics of the giant potato area and the cabbage-radish-lettuce-greenbeans-cucumbers-peas-celery-broccoli-bokchoi-brusselsprouts-zucchini area (I probably forgot something, there's a lot of random stuff there). Unfortunately I think a lot of my cabbage-family plants have or are bolting, but most of it is doing well. I have been pleasantly surprised by the taste of the radishes (and radish greens!) and feel like I've been lied to all my life :angryglitch:
I also have a bunch of tomatoes (romas, san marzano, and cherry tomatoes - I have had less success with the bigger ones for some reason but that's fine since I'm going to can a ton of them anyway), and another giant area filled with corn, pumpkin/other squash, and beans, but they're also just getting started (you say June is "late" but the official "last frost" for here was in June and there was definitely an actual one in early June that took a few of my potatoes despite my attempts to protect them :cryingcat:). I'm sure there's more I'm not thinking about right now - I have so much random stuff everywhere; gardening is going to be a fun time :blobcatdance:

The new onions and garlic are doing well so far (I also have some chives and scallions around the garden). I'd take a picture but I really need to weed them first :blobeyes:
