The direct colonial empire was bound to fail in an hilariously explosive way and in my opinion we were relatively lucky in how it went, it could have been a lot worse.

The part I find the most ridiculous about that story is how not being able to be elected president is a violation of muh human rights !

Nope, the left wing political parties are, and the public sector union is a mix of both, but the trotskyists never managed to take control of the whole structure.
And last night’s failed coup was exactly that, a trotskyist coup attempt that failed badly.
Fact is, it’s not only entirely possible to be far right and a member of the CGT, it’s much more frequent than anybody would like to admit.

Because they are both direct creations of the first communist international, and probably chose the name together there ^^
In France, they used to be very political and basically an organ of the communist party, but their role drastically changed after WWII.
They got some para-governmental powers and a lot of crap they did was tolerated by the government (up and including to stockpiling war weapons) in exchange for getting out of electoral politics entirely.
And their soviet controllers at the time actually agreed with that compromise because they saw them more as a reverse-gladio force than as a revolutionary force, their role being to be an enormous pain in the ass and 5th column if the cold war ever got hot and NATO forced France’s integration.

Now, for the Union organization of the movement, something unexpected happened the last night, the CGT, our biggest union, was doing their congress, and was supposed to elect a new chancellor.
Everybody expected either the designated successor to be elected, or more probable, the election to be postponed due to current events.
But… there was a coup attempt from two sides !
The industrial workers federation thought that Martinez (the old chancellor) was not going hard enough, taking about negotiations instead of being totally intransigent, and well… they are right.
And the public sector federation wanted to push their own guy, who was more hardcore, but was pretty obviously a Trotskyite plant, there has always been a tension between the public sector workers who are more politicized and new-left on social issues and the industrial workers who are less politicized but what politics they do have tend to be more Stalinist and socially conservative.
So basically the public sector union guys tried a coup, but didn’t get the votes they expected, leaving the congress with 3 candidates with no clear majority, and a lot of tension from gayops that each camp did to get the votes.
And yeah, I have more than doubts on the cohencidence of a coup attempt right now…
So what happened is that the congress debated all night, under the table deals were made, and basically did a counter-coup, but they couldn’t select any of the candidates as the new chancellor because they were all tainted.
So they elected a woman (yeah, I know, but to be fair, two of the official candidates were too, and the non-woman candidate was a Trotskyist, which does always mean kike, even without an early life). She’s not totally unknown, she was head of the ‘management’ union and initially I was very worried because that’s by nature the less system-hostile federation (and still are on some points, I doubt she has the balls to be a great negotiator), especially since she’s got history in feminist crap (but mostly first wave, so not the sex-positive crap).
But then I got to deep dive in internal CGT politics, and it looks like she was selected for loyalty first and foremost, and she did make a few… let’s say interesting … choices.
The two foremost ones that ticked my attention being:
She pushed hard and did a lot of great work on whistleblower protection, both at the national level and at the EU level
She was MC for the CGT congress, and they did (as they usually do) a thing where they give the mic to street level militants, and the first contributor, and the one who had the most speaking time was a Palestinian activist!
Funny detail, anonymous sources in the central committee have called her “The third way candidate”, and those guys are trained marxists, they know exactly what the implications are.

First off, a general update on the pension reform protests in France.
Nothing much is happening that is newsworthy, strikes are still going on as “days of action” as a show of force, to show that the movement’s ability to mobilize is there.
But the general strike and its total paralysis is postponed to after the constitutional council’s (kind of our supreme court) analysis of the law.
The idea being that putting pressure on them could make them reject the law on a procedural issue (it was forced through the parliament with a mechanism that is designed for budgetary laws, not structural laws).
If they do, then Macron can either do nothing and look like a bitch, make it a referendum matter and probably look like a bitch, or dissolve the parliament hoping to get a new majority and some legitimacy from new elections which is dangerous for reasons I will go into in more details later.
If they don’t, then general strike it is, those have never failed to make the government capitulate in France, a general strike is the nuclear option, Macron being very stubborn, he probably will try to hold the line and I have no idea how far it can go in that case ^^

I agree, one you remove time as a constraint on the system, causality is moot anyways.
But that’s my point about determinism, once you really remove time as a constraint, determinism is not wrong, it’s meaningless, it only has meaning inside a time arrow.
There is still a totally incomprehensible aspect that is the hypostatic union of timeless “eternity” and man’s timely existence in a single person, but I’m fine with it being a mystery that is inaccessible to human understanding because it looks more and more like everything else we assumed was comprehensible is actually in the same general class.
I wouldn’t say that it makes more rational sense than the theist’s infinitely remote creator, but it does feel more congruent with how reality seems to function, there is a feeling of “oh yeah, I’ve met this paradox before, it’s a friendly paradox” ^^

I don’t see any good reason to assert that causality should be trashed when we get to bedrock.
Ok, and I’m not saying that I can be certain that total causality is fake (but not gay, since it doesn’t allow for time travel), but I don’t see any good reason to assume that it’s universal, especially when getting rid of it as a hard rule solves a lot of issues without really creating new ones.
Especially in the metaphysical realm, hard causality does have to break at some point if there is to be an uncaused cause, and if it breaks at that point, then it can be broken and it’s not that hard of a rule is it ?
I don’t know how hard of a rule it is, maybe it’s harder than I believe, all I know is that making it a constraint on God’s action is being more legalistic than the creator ^^

All the “experimental proofs” of special relativity basically, once again, I’m not saying that special relativity is truth(tm), I’m saying that the observations do show that the happens-before relationship only makes sense locally, and with a definition of “locally” that converges to zero the more you look at it.
You can postulate that a general happens-before relationship could exist if you have an omniscient instantaneous observer, I’m not saying it’s impossible, but nothing points to it being a necessity, maybe there is, maybe there is not.
The point is that God knows if there is but we cannot, and -if- there is it’s only distantly related to our time perception.
As for retro-causality, at least one quarter of all quantum physics interpretations are about finding copes to make sure that we have a different explanation for what absolutely looks like retro causal effects whenever the wave/particle duality fucks with us, maybe one of those copes is true, but nothing truly important really is contingent on them being true apart from our mental comfort, God certainly isn’t.

Macron did try to hint at a future “immigration law”, but that’s such an obvious ploy to try to exploit divisions between the nationalists and the leftists that everybody saw it as such.
Sociologically, I must admit that the far-left parties are the ones who actually have the people who will do most of the striking, because they own a lot of the top echelons of the big national unions which can actually shut down big corporations, but they also know that their big strikes only work if the average barely-politicized worker supports them and doesn’t see them as destroying their livelihood, and those are mostly owned by the nationalists.

Daily update, not a lot more to say, the strikes are organizing pretty well, It -is- a lot better when the unions actually contribute their enormous logistical and manpower capabilities… Macron spoke, basically did 5 minutes defending the pension law, pretending everything was fine and he was “sorry people did not understand” and then did a basic bitch general policy speach.
His big argument for going through by force is “there is no alternative majority”, so basically he just told us that he didn’t give a crap about being hated by 3/4 of the people as long as those 3/4 were split in two slight minorities.
Tomorrow should be the first day of organized shutting it down, until now it was only local actions, it should be a single day because it’s a warning shot.
Since Macron obviously wont heed the warning, it should turn into a real infrastructure shutdown, I’d guess end of next week, organizing those takes time and planning when you are trying to shut the economy down while avoiding, you know, massive death tolls ^^
As an aside, yeah, it’s kind of a trivial thing, but it’s symbolic because the pension system is one of the remaining national systems from before neo-liberalism (It actually was created by Pétain), and sure, it’s got some budget issues but those would cost a lot less to fix than… for example… financing a war with Russia…

Daily update, being doing transport for protesters so I didn’t really have time to look too much at what the media is saying.
Police are being brutal, but tbh it’s nothing out of the ordinary, riot police have always been brutal and it’s expected as long as they don’t beat up ladies, old people or children.
Macron will talk to the French people tomorrow, which always tends to make things worse because he has negative charisma.
Pressure was applied to unions in the classical play of “you are allying with extremists, any violence is your responsibility” but the union chiefs actually read the room correctly and answered “The extremists wouldn’t have any popular support if you actually, you know, negotiated with us, so fuck you”.
So now, there is no way there is a negotiated solution that doesn’t both totally throw the law out and force Macron back to the drawing board and at least a year lost and forces him to fire the current government as a gesture.
Edit: Oh yeah, the unions are calling for a general strike, that’s always funny.

If that’s the plan in France, then it’s more dumb than a land war in China.
We are great at three things, food, nuclear power and ultra-violent revolutions.
And that’s without taking into account that the military never hated a president as viscerally as Macron since Blum.

Private shmirvate, it’s meaningless, it’s got sovereign power over the dollar, so it’s part of the government whatever the law says.
Of course they don’t give a fuck about you but if they have to bailout the FDIC, they will even if that happens to unfortunately not kill you (from their point of view), because ultimately they care about the system keeping a modicum of stability, that’s their job.
The fact that it’s obviously in favor of billionnaires and that they actually put that in the statutes is just an american peculiarity, but in the end it’s a central bank like any other.

First off, she doesn’t really decide, the FED does ultimately.
Second, yeah SVB maybe is not TBTF, it’s the FDIC that may need a bailout, and most of the industry seems relatively calm because they can already hear the machine going up to speed to go full brrrrr
The main issue they have to fight is time, if people start defaulting too much on mortgages because someone like Uber stops being able to pay, that will fuck up mortgage backed securities even worse and would have a systemic effect, so the FED probably wants to start helicoptering money ASAFP but despite being ultimately the sovereign on that shit, the whole legalistic bullcrap federal government is slowing the response down.
Muh separation of powers + pseudo-private bullshit down the money chain is bad for speedy decision making.

I’m not an insider anymore, but I have seen so many “it’s the end times for global capitalism” events that I can only agree.
The system is very resilient, central bankers may not give a fuck about the common people, but they do care about the stability of the system and they are very good at doing that because they learn from their mistakes.
If it was going to ever do a hard break, it would have broken in 2008, weathering that storm showed how much actual leverage they have, and it was a lot more than anybody predicted.
