Drawing a line in the sand.
Listened to @npub1wnl…n3wr on @npub1pxy…7nke @npub14mc…frlx and agree with them. I particularly align with Pete’s thoughts: “I just want Bitcoin to be the best money”.
A book I read a while ago supports a simple, disciplined approach to Bitcoin as money. It’s Essentialism by Greg McKeown. Here’s the brief summary from Blinkist if you haven’t read it:
Essentialism by Greg McKeown is a book about simplifying your life and focusing on what truly matters. It encourages readers to prioritize their time and energy by filtering out the nonessential and saying "no" to distractions.
Looking at the history of digital electronic cash and payments and the sources cited by Satoshi in the Bitcoin white paper, the clear purpose of Bitcoin is money, i.e. a peer-to-peer electronic cash system. Bitcoin is the best money. That’s what will change the world and is what truly matters. Everything else is secondary to that. If anything takes away time or energy (e.g. blockspace) from that should be looked at as adversarial to the purpose of Bitcoin otherwise known as “spam on the blockchain.”

Lyn, if the topic of Canadian CBDCs comes up during the discussion/Q&A, request you ask a policy question: whether the appropriate constraints (privacy-preserving or anti-authoritarian) the government will, or should, place on itself so as to not completely abuse the power of controlling its people's money and transaction ability? I'd reference China's behavior with its CBDC and the illegal actions of the Canadian government to freeze bank accounts during the Canadian Trucker protest. In a short time we've already seen fairly damning evidence that government needs constraints in terms of controlling money, if it claims liberty as a value. Also, thank you for your book and all your writings. It's wonderful.

Daily Gratitude: Fermentation & Alcohol. Humans developed it about 5,000 years ago because it fills a basic human need. We harnessed fermentation, and it’s byproduct alcohol, because life is difficult and most people need a way to calm down the inner critic/anxiety. In moderation it is wonderful, in excess it is devastating. Thankful for it. Always have to be disciplined with it and respect its effects.

Daily Gratitude: Indoor, electric washer & dryer. I can put my clothes in a machine and it washes them while I’m doing other things. Same thing for the Dryer. Hand washing and drying clothes would take much time and energy away from other creative human pursuits. It is incredible how blessed we are to have machines like this.
