Update in case anyone else has similar issues.
I went back to the raspi and was determined to find the source of the issue.
Problem: raspi boots correctly, node syncs with the block chain, and then between 1 and 10 minutes or so (timing varies), the node disconnects and is unreachable by browser. Each time this happened I had to power cycle the raspi to get it running again.
I ended up uninstalling all of the node apps except for the core ones. I had to reboot the raspi 3 times during this process as it would disconnect the node before I could get very far each time.
After I finished uninstalling all of the extra episodes apps, it stopped failing.
It's uptime is currently at over 38 days. One or more of the optional third party apps inside of MyNode was causing the issue. I don't know which one, but if you use MyNode and have this problem, start by uninstalling apps.

I just don't see it. It presumes a degree of not just competency, but innovation that you would be extremely hard pressed to locate inside of a gov agency.
I also don't see the incentives for a program to be greenlit to create a network that cannot be controlled by the state.

I'm seriously thinking about learning how to hunt.
I'm trying really hard to embrace self sufficiency, and this feels like the next natural step. It's just an intimidating one. Especially as a former vegetarian.
I have some buddies that are into it, the plan is to shadow them to get a feeling for it and learn what I can, and figure out next steps.
Growth is hard, but also exciting. Always forward, never back.

I had a moment of weakness the other day, and it surprised me.
The details aren't super important, but I basically wasn't having the best of weeks and backslid into my old default behavior at a company gathering because I was so out of my element.
Nothing bad happened, except the lost opportunity to network and run shoulders with company leadership.
But it was a great reminder that my weaker tendencies are always going to be there. That my assumption of being 'past that' was not true at all.
No one gets to just grow past the urge to avoid discomfort, or to settle for what is comfortable. It was a nice dose of reality, and I will work harder next time.

Are there any privacy or security concerns for connecting Sparrow to Bitcoin Core as opposed to Electrum Server?
Using Electrum Server now but my Raspi is dying. I recall reading somewhere that there is a reason not to use Core but now I cannot find it.

That's the only thing that makes sense to me. Otherwise the network would be at the mercy of whoever controlled the clock it references to determine the difficulty setting.

Yes - which means that either the Bitcoin network has some kind of internal timepiece or it references an external clock in order to know how long ten minutes is, or else the difficulty adjustment wouldn't be possible. That's where I'm hung up.
Seems like referencing an external timepiece is the opposite of antifragile but I haven't found a good answer yet for how this precisely works.

I really hate dealing with nodes.
The one I've been using for the last year is turning off randomly. No clue what's wrong. Suspect it's the raspi so I thought I would install core onto a laptop.
Thought it would be a good chance to unshackle myself from Windows and try Ubuntu.
Days later, halting steps. Ubuntu installed. Core is verified and installed. Blockchain is syncing.
For a few hours anyway. App crashes for no reason, and now it's refusing to start, even with
'snap connect bitcoin-core:removable media'
from the command line.
For fuck's sake. I like Ubuntu well enough from what I've seen, but it was a huge mistake since I've never touched Linux before. Seriously considering abandoning the whole thing and going back to Windows. At least I understand how that shit works well enough to properly troubleshoot.
Ugh. I need to go to bed and look at this with fresh eyes tomorrow.

I'm taking the 100 days of code python course.
It's decent. I'd say worth the $ if it's on sale. I use it in conjunction with 3 other Udemy python courses to get multiple angles on the same material. Seems to help a bit. When one doesn't explain in a way that I grok, the others help fill in the blanks.

I was never banned or suspended from bird app. I'm unlikely to be on any centralized platform because I mostly lurk and I don't like to draw attention to myself.
But despite this, the single best thing about Nostr for me is the inability to deplatform users. Being uncensorable is like owning a gun, or having extra food stored, or having confiscation resistant money.
When you don't need it, you don't mind or even notice the lack. When you DO need it, you need it right now.

My worst mistake wasn't shitcoining. Although I did plenty of that the first couple of years.
It wasn't trying to trade and getting rekt (Although that certainly happened).
It was putting my ENTIRE Bitcoin stack split between Celsius and Blockfi and leaving it there for almost a year for the yield.
I was a complete idiot, and the maxis of BT educated me about what and insane and utterly nonsensical risk that was. I was incredibly lucky to have learned that lesson before the yield platforms imploded or I would have lost everything.
Listen to the maxis, they know what dangers lurk out there.

I've not yet experienced the death of a parent, but I've lost more than a few close friends over the years. I know it's not really comparable, but the last one I had known for close to 30 years. Still feels fresh when I think about it. He literally saved my life once upon a time.
One of the things I try to keep in mind is that our limited time on this planet is part of what makes our lives so valuable. Having the privilege to witness the last chapters of someone's life and to see the completion of their story is a beautiful thing even though the pain is unbearable.

As long as human incentives remain what they are, its inevitability runs parallel with the resiliency of the modern world.
The thing is, inevitable doesn't mean easy or quick. If this takes the path of greatest pain, it could be decades longer than conservative estimates to get there to a Bitcoin standard.
It could mean a whole lot of dead or incarcerated Bitcoiners during the remainder of the transition.

Without Twitter, I would never have encountered Bitcoin Maximalists who saved me from getting rekt on yield platforms - specifically Celsius and Blockfi.
I would not have discovered the nutrition, supplement, and fitness rabbit holes
Or been exposed to plebs who have radically altered my perception and approach to reality.
And without Twitter I never would have discovered Nostr.

Legacy finance just blows my mind. I recently was given a window into how payment processing works.
A small galaxy of fees leveraged against the merchant. Some are clear, others are positively Byzantine.
Sliding rates for a variety of circumstances that represent different risk factors. Innumerable ways that the banks routing the payments can decline (and then charge additional fees).
Limits and fine print and a hundred ways that it could go wrong even if the middlemen are happy.
Final settlement taking weeks or longer. Risk of claw backs from unscrupulous users, layers up on layers of dependencies and rent seeking behavior.
I knew a lot of this stuff beforehand, on a vague general sort of way. But actually learning the detailed nuts and bolts of how all of this is structured and seeing all of this parasitism in real terms made me so incredibly thankful that Bitcoin is going to put all of these fuckers out of business, and allow value generating companies thrive.
