Not even close. Most debts ("moneyness") were settled through credit. Reputation.
That is the de facto monetary standard of the time. Ledgers and credit.
Poor people settled their debts in local fiat or other base metals.
Silver became ONE important settlement network for the wealthy and for a few hundred years as it was insanely profitable to mine it in the Americas and transport it to China. Many money systems had nothing to do with silver at all.

Yeah silver is awesome. Youre just describing consistent demand for a material asset, not a payment network or money system.
The point stands that it was never global money, it just became one (of many) settlement layer.
And retaining spending power obviously isn't the only important property of a monetary asset.
"Resilience" is a good one. If the network isn't reliable, it doesn't have utility for value transfer. Sometimes we call this "security" and decentralization plays a big role here.
"Transferability" also comes to mind. If someone can't reassign ownership to somebody else, it isn't particularly useful.
And of course, we're all about the ability to reassign value without any third party's consent or knowledge.
Which is just to say,
Manhattan real estate might be a good store of value, it doesn't make it a monetary system.
What do you call a fish with no eyes? I'll give the answer after a few guesses.

Am a bit of old bastard. I started my career back in the previous millennium. 9 months or so into start, people quit left, right, and center as work dried up and they went and learned how to code mostly and moved on. Feel free to look back over the headlines from 1998 about "the era of cheap oil is here" as it dropped below 14 bucks per barrel and decimated the industry and investment. Funny how cycles go. The wars and general proclivity to terrorist might is right behaviour currently taking place will be a slow grind on the actual geological and engineering side.
You do not know how badly refinery capacity hit.
You do not know how badly supply chains have really been hit.
Nobody knows how the oil wells will behave when brought back online.
After the collapse of 98, which was celebrated ad nauseum in the financial press, years of underinvestment ensued. Exploration was definitely off the cards in most places. Eventually, all things change, price goes up, investment comes back, and prospectors start to take a little more risk.
We then had the unconventional resource boom but keep in mind that decline rates are higher as induced permeability is spatially restricted relative to a juicy laterally extensive rock with good fluid communication.
Those plays are gassifying in many places. The easy stuff is drilled up in many areas and besides, the oil produced is light and sweet and not what is required for things like diesel.
