IMO, targeting regular casual entertainment-seeking normies is not where the money will be for building stuff with nostr tech
you want to get customers who are running a dev shop or research labs with distributed locations and similar sorts of businesses who need comms and an easily searchable archive of all kinds of data, including git repositories and documents, stuff like calendars and interfaces to teleconferencing tools
they also don't need to particularly know how it works, but they will like it for reasons like, for example, a dev shop may not want to be trusting the highly untrustworthy microsoft to not spider their private repositories into their AI models, or even just get hacked and have their data dumped on the dark web

been thinking more about this, i think the root "plex" means "many parts" like the greek "polymer" and "com" means "with" in most modern latinic languages (or con-), and "plic-" is a derivative of plex. it is definitely a "soft" expression in the sense of qualitative, where in greek it might be called "monad" or "diad" or "polyadic" or even "variadic"
greek use in mathematics mostly is about parameters in formulae, and it is used a lot in chemistry such as polymer and dimer and synthetic, the word synergy, and the word energy, are greek words, and just remembering that the italians were at one time the most groundbreaking mathematicians so it's a complex mix of influences how latin versus greek got into scientific language. language itself is a latin based word, and mathematics, is greek.
the main difference is that the greeks were way ahead in mathematics a long time before the latins got into the game, so our modern nomenclature is mixed among these things. there was also a lot of more recent great mathematicians from france such as Henri Poincaire and also germanic folks like Mandelbrot.
and even, more recently, a lot of great israeli mathematicians were heavily influential in cryptography, such as Shamir, and the german Schnorr, and the dutch Rijndael, actually, the dutch have been a huge influence on especially network theory and complex systems in the last 100 years.
but as a rule, greek tends to be mathematics, and latin tends to be more abstract.

complex means many parts, complicated means it appears to be sophistry and there is deception in it
it's some confusing syntax of these words, simplicity and complicity are not even related, but complicity implies participation in a crime or deception
very often things that appear complicated are deceptively simple, you often are not seeing how your apprehension of its elements is obfuscating the important parts that actually have an impact on the system
i think that it's some kind of speech thing, easier to say simplicity than simplexity because that would be the opposite of complexity, and the word "plex" means a piece of something, it's latin, the greek is "mer" which means a part also

my main concern is that this "we'll be back to help later" was a misintepretation of what was actually said, because we are gonna see 95% of the human population wiped out this time, optimistically, if we are only able do what is practical now to survive it
just because cargo cults are usually about "when the gods come back" and they never do, but i dunno, i don't think Enoch was exactly not well studied, and some of the other stuff he says, trying to describe in detail the laws of celestial motion and the seasons and so forth, it just doesn't seem like he was as primitive in his understanding as maybe other writers were
john the prophet also was pretty detailed in his description of what the angel showed to him... and near the end of the book he even reports that he went to prostrate himself before the angel and the angel says "don't do that, i'm the same as you" or some words close to this.

i see them as a subspecies of human, from the same root, whose different constitution allowed them to become spiritually advanced
they clearly had some kind of "flying chariot" technology as well as being able to project themselves into people's minds and communicate by what could only be described as telepathy

and i also think that minimizing the amount of "authorized" bible texts that contained more detail about the interbreeding of angels and humans was part of the agenda of the Council of Niceae (sp?) because they wanted to suppress what was at the time common knowledge, and purged Enoch from most of western and central europe, but the text survived not just in eastern europe, but also in ethiopia and in israel as well (all three religions/denominations accept Enoch as canon) but this wasn't available to those central/western europeans between the formation of the catholic church and the discovery of the Ethiopian Orthodox text, and more recently extensive fragments of Enoch were found in the collection of documents found called the Dead Sea Scrolls
i think that the evil ones have tried to hide the facts from people and promote instead this idea of disincarnate beings and muddled the translations to obscure this - even the official canon books in more modern translations have many hints and references to this that were curated out of the versions we are more familiar with.

what the unlimited #OP_RETURN retards don't realise is that a bloated mempool is the same as big blocks as far as concerns the average onchain user and node runner, they have to pay a higher percentage and shitcoiners WILL use it if the majority of nodes don't block relaying these transactions
it is a small comfort that it terminates tiny amounts of sats per transaction fee, when the transaction fees go past 20 and 100 sats/vbyte to open lightning channels and the minimum practical onchain payment size is increased because of the fee rate going above what you pay for a SEPA or SWIFT transfer, or worse, you get unlucky and set a fee rate that is currently ok and then shitcoiners pile in and your transaction is stuck 20 blocks in the future for the next month
oh, sure, they can do it already with witnesses but there is already policies people are setting on their nodes to reject relaying these
and that's gonna be how it is, bitcoin core opens this up, they are basically rugging themselves from being the number one node developers
so, good luck idiots, the people will decide, i run a node, i'm not upgrading it, so my node isn't gonna relay this garbage, even if it does relay garbage from witness bloat

the point i have given the time for in the link shows the state of my immediate region
cayce says that the pole shift will not be a full 90 degree, but instead around 20 degrees, with antarctica moving into a temperate zone
it looks like madeira will fall under the sea, though i'm skeptical about this, however, it is possible that the region between the western edge of africa and across to out past the azores will sink, and that land will rise over to the west, where cayce asserts is the original location of atlantis (apocalypse of yajnavalkya asserts that it is the region around morocco and mauritania, and certainly the description of the capital city lines up with the eye of the desert in mauritania)
idk what to make of all this exactly, but cayce was remarkably accurate so many times about so many things
hm well, idk, anyway... that's the thing about pole shifts, they can actually not do the full 90 degrees, the amount of slip is a fuzzy number, and depends also on how much the crust deforms due to seismic and volcanic activity

the real reason why so many big corporations got into DEI was because it allowed them to hire a lot more low paid staff while puffing their figures on their annual reports, and made nice statistics for the government, whose woke agent provocateurs were busy evangelizing to their biggest donors

they are lying, the US atmospheric electricity sensor array GloTEC https://www.spaceweather.gov/products/glotec detected a very strong burst of atmospheric electricity right at the time it happened, i don't think the current display shows it because it was over 24 hours ago but
as i said, on the Space Weather News channel's pod today he will most likely show the animation from glotec that shows you, it was indeed a very strong burst of energy and if you watch it you will see... i will be posting the link to it when the show is posted in a few hours
it is an atmospheric phenomenon, but not a heat driven one, it comes from energy breaching the magnetic field (and that region is on the margins of the inner rings of the earth's magnetic flux lines, for which reason underneath it, when there is a strong solar flare or just the field is weak, which it is, the pressure of the plasma pushes the van allen belt downwards and the electrons in it then flow via the paths of the flux downwards to earth, and typically they also flow out from underneath it and stimulate weather systems in the equatorial region)
the data showing on that link above excludes yesterday and starts at midday, but even still you can see if you watch the middle map, press teh play button, that there is weaker pulses across the very region where this stuff happened, around portugal, spain, southern france and a ways into the mediterranean... what happened yesterday was like the couple of pulses that happened in the last 24 hours over that region but very strong

if your relay has a garbage collector on it, it's because it has a bigger store elsewhere that it fetches events from, even if the event was purged from the relay's cache as soon as it's requested again it's fetched and stored after sending it back to the user
you aren't going to use the GC without this being the case because the purpose is distributing the load of data access and concentrating the archive in a small cluster and users read from the caches

this is for later work, anyhow, but as we have discussed the idea of making relays into caches for a bigger event store would require capping the storage use of the caches, evicting the least valuable data in the cache
relay operators could then run independent cache relays as part of their service offering and subscribe to the big store and save on managing their relay's syncing with the broader network (their relays would push to the store when they store and pull when they process requests, refreshing entries that may have found their way down to the end of the list)

yeah, i think i'll just add an access counter and then the sort order will be by last accessed AND least accessed, and this will remove the LRU bias, the GC will sort the oldest ones first and then sort those by the least accessed
stuff that might be better to keep will also tend to have higher access counts so it can be shuffled upwards away from the low water mark

i'm working on making a bunker app at the moment but i might switch up the access counter value field to contain an access counter alongside the last accessed timestamp, and then maybe reinstate the option of having a garbage collector and a size limit target, these can be done in teh dynamic configuration so you can switch it up whenever you need to such as after migrating to a bigger VPS

i'm glad i wasn't affected, we are far enough away from where it happened... the way Ben describes the pattern it starts off the coast of spain and then arcs down to the right towards the mediterranean
this event suggests we are looking at a very likely intense space weather month coming up, last year it was may when the first really big hit came through, and i did the math and figured out that this is because in may we come around to the "light side" of the sun, the face of the sun that is towards the centre of the galaxy

just separating subscriptions and queries alone makes a huge difference because you don't need to keep a socket data structure and thread live all the time, you just spin one up each time there is request

REST is more advanced than RPC and more compliant with the principle in computer science of avoiding the necessity of codecs to view the transit of information
you have headers (request and response), parameters, paths, body (request and response) and cookies, with RPC you only have request and response
you didn't even use a normal RPC layout for NIP-01, with ambiguous method names in the messages, as well, that makes it more complex to write codecs for it
and subscriptions can be done on HTTP since about 2016, called Server Sent Events SSE
i learned all of that stuff in the last few months because i'm doing this for my paid gig, and it's extremely standardised such that there is no such thing as a HTTP framework on any programming language that doesn't support everything already out of the box
meanwhile, here with nostr we have number codes, ambiguous message formats, absurdly complex filter tag parameters (for most languages you have to do omitempty with all all letters of the alphabet in both cases, which you put an unnecessary # prefix on when there is no other single letter fields in the object), and the lifecycle of connections is very complicated and wastes huge amounts of code and network resources to keep alive, when you could have done that with SSE

this morning i finished up a little bit of cleaning prompted by the use of a static analysis tool called `gocyclo`. this tool analyses the code and looks for long and complex functions that it highlights for "cyclomatic complexity" which basically means that the function should be decomposed into some smaller parts to reduce the cognitive burden of debugging it
i fixed a few things in some very long winded functions relating to handling event submission (complex because of the delete stuff, so that was split off) and request handling... i will continue to do more of this decomposition work on other stuff before i move on to other things because breaking the stuff down into bite sized pieces makes change and debugging a lot easier
there are a bunch of other great static analysis tools i can use as well and i'll probably work through a few more and clean up the codebase even further, before pondering what new things to add
i still have yet to finish putting the bunker code in the old codebase from the new work also, and then once that's all done i'll be figuring out how to make a bunker signer app, and probably the next feature after that will be using the same GUI tooling to create a really nice API explorer, first to replace the existing web interface to it, and then probably extend it to support the websocket API (nip-01) as well, and i will aim to make it so you can use it satisfactorily on even a mobile phone

it's extensively discussed in Enoch, and in genesis it's practically the main reason given for why the world needed to be washed away... though considering the science of pole shifts and the geomagnetic disaster cycle that was probably just what was interpreted from it in the time in between, since as far as we know there isn't actually texts older than this

i used standard btcec library to do it
i don't get how it's being rejected, whatever algorithm you have checking the validity of the public key it generates is rejecting valid secp256k1 curve points
this is the checker in btcec:

when i think of Go i think of Rob Pike and Ken Thompson, and they cooked up the idea of making the language because of how godawful the compilation of C++ was, as well as how long it took to train devs to use it
those two dudes sure they worked for AT&T for a long time and now work for Google but google doesn't love Go, they don't do anything to promote it for web front end or desktop/mobile GUI development, and the state of that with Go is sadly retarded, no, they only care about dart and flutter
so, yeah, just like C# had a lot of money thrown at it by microsoft as you see it doesn't matter so i don't see why it matters when two utter legends of computer programming built and oversee the development of Go, to me that's more important, i doubt you can point at even one other language that has such big names behind it, guys who have been working in network systems programming since the notion was invented

he was also a cat lover as well, and had two cats, a male and female tabby, and one day the tabby had kittens and one of them was an almost pedigree grade russian blue (his eyes weren't quite green) and omg i loved that little cat, he had some strange incident happen where he got a massive gash on his hind quarters one side of his tail, and then one day he disappeared, but we are pretty sure that a neighbour snaffled him, a couple months later i saw him stalking around up the street
anyway, why to meniton that - russian blues are common in russia and ukraine, and a lot of russians had moved to serbia at that point already, so much so in Novi Sad, at least, their cats were breeding up everywhere, and they are super aggressive cats, they are known to often keep playing like kittens until they are over 4 years old, which is uncommon among other cat varieties, and their fur is so lovely, i mean, silky... and they are a semi-allergen-free breed as well
i used to get moderately bad allergies from cats but after a week or so it would stop and i've loved cats since i had my first kitten about age 8, but never managed to keep one, keep on moving around... i want to stop! here i stand, this is it, no more. i spent almost 3 years living with a dude who was a go fanatic and his main business was building websites, he's the "bitstickers" guy, btw, was one of the early guys selling those stickers that were plastered all over amsterdam back in the early days (circa 2014)

i sorta had an inkling there was something missing from the workflow of my colleagues building the smart contracts, middleware data cache index server and front end that i am now literally having to fill a gap for
they don't have a mock data generator scheme for their index to enable testing the stuff in between the front end and the middleware index database cache
i already had written mock stuff, because i can't be testing any kind of credible statistical analysis algorithm without a large quantity of data, both to test the algorithm and to evaluate its meeting the requirements it has
it's dead boring work, making mocks, and there is a bit of a twinge of a perception that i'm not working fast enough at doing the job, and i think the thing is they literally don't realise that i don't have data to build my big data analysis code for
i've dropped this information into the dev chat about this, specifically that i have to build a mock to simulate a live system to make sure that my sync to the database is adequate
so, i think that's gonna be a point i'm gonna nudge at any time i have incidents like what the CTO did a few weeks back, complaining about how i am not working fast enough... i'll just say "there was no testing framework to mock a running system and i have to build that as well"
it's boring tho, lol, man this is boring, it's so much more interesting building things that barely have to be online and referred to in my profile and bam i have 50 users pushing data to my relay, means i can test it in the wild and avoid a lot of this tedium
but as @npub1l5s…gx9z would say, we still need to have some kind of a decent test framework anyhow

i have issues with several android nostr apps
they refuse to accept my nsec in bech32 form, the nsec.... format
idk why, because it works perfectly in my relay, and with alby, but amber right now is one signer i'm having trouble with at the moment, and it seems that new version of coracle android uses it, and without my nsec in it, it refuses to post notes, and without it installed, it refuses to run
i have no fucking idea what is wrong with you stupid devs that you can't even write a simple fucking bech32 decoder correctly, is there something wrong with your brains?
in order to decode my nsec into hex i have to sit down and spend 10 minutes writing a piece of code to deal with the problem that you guys are causing me, so, i'm just not using nostr on my mobile. coracle android is abominably slow anyway, waste of time, and i'm not using mister fucking hipster rockstar vitor pamplona's trash, which seems to be the nearest thing to a client that actually works on android

man, refactoring the #realy subscription system so it's modular and can have each api separately disabled instead of only both on is proving complicated
the HTTP api is simple, there is literally just a channel that sends a context from the http request, the authed pubkey (if any), *one* filter, and a channel to receive new events on
in contrast, the websocket has three functions, one to add a new subscription, one to close a specific subscription of one socket, and to remove all of the subscriptions of one socket
i feel like the right way to do this is to make them uniform, so instead of having this complicated scheme, each subscription itself is distinct, but then i have the problem of supporting the closing of all the subscriptions of a socket, this is the main difference between the two interfaces
reconciling these two separate things into a uniform and simplified interface is really what i want to do here, and then each individual subscription has one filter and one close context, but i need a means to have all of them cancel at once...
i'm still a bit lost how to do this, but i'm gonna try and figure out a means to solve the problem
it's a juicy problem and i'm quite addicted to trying to solve it at the moment
i feel it is going to need something different, so where currently the sockets are not maintaining the state of their individual subscriptions, but using the websocket as a grouping for a set of subscriptions tied to one socket... >_< gonna figure this out soon
this is the hardest part of splitting the two apis apart, it's the place where they are connected to the relay's subscription management scheme, once i can have one uniform mechanism for distributing new events out and closing them as one or as a group i'll have it done and then i can put the implementations of the interface into each api package and then if the api is disabled it just isn't being checked, currently they are spaghetti
i hate websockets, did i mention that? they are such a messy construct for what should be a simple request/response

it's funny, when i was first shown my new little cottage on the edge of nowhere in sao christoval, the agent gave the impression that "he preferred it if the place was rented for short periods so more people could see it" and then more recently when i asked him about maybe extending, it was like "no problem, however long you like"
probably because there is no garage or carpark here, and this place is so small and out of the way, pretty much no islander wants to live in a place like this, and the tourists want their carparks and their convenient supermarket and stuff

a few weird bits to how to use it, like moving tabs by drag and drop is a bit un-intuitive, but it helps keep my tabs in order
ah yeah, so, the thing to improve performance is in the "system" menu of the settings, under "performance" and "memory saver"
i haven't actually had to use it because my pc has 64gb memory and rarely uses more than 20gb most of the time but for 8 or 16gb machines i can imagine it helps a lot, also you can whitelist apps to be able to run in the background, like email and such

I just got a call from the vet and he does need dental surgery, so I have asked that they organise to keep him until they can see to it. I want him fully fixed so he is through this hard time and can relax with me and catch up on his lost youth, he's been sick most of his short life, I wanted to do some good so this is what it will be.
I'm sure everything will be ok, once he isn't in so much pain. Poor little guy.

#mochi the #catstr is in the vet for his reevaluation after the treatment and he's refusing to be cooperative so they have to job him with some kind of kitty valium so they can actually get near him, and needed two nurses to get control of him just to give the shot.
On the bright side, it is good that he is alert and wide eyed, but he's not fully through the process of recovery.
Hopefully the last steps are a bit easier... Have to wait a bit over an hour including him coming out of the sedation.
Everyone at the vet was amused, oh well, that's how it is when you rescue a stray I guess. He will be better after all the medicine regime is over and I'm sure he will forgive the disruption of his discomfort with time.

i saw something about some map you can see now that shows where all the plastic is building up all over the world, it's pretty damn disturbing
i'm not concerned about the decay part, because that's been the worst bullshit ever propaganda of the green movement, plastic actually decays really fast, that's part of the problem with it
what i'm most concerned in the short term is how much fresh plastic is around me and near me all the time, venting VOCs and the plasticising agents and molding helpers that form icky skins over the plastic molds to help separate them from the molds. those things are the worst, that's where most of the toxic endocrine disruptor chemicals are.
and then all the composite wood based materials, the place i live in now is full of this composite material and i'm quite certain that it is venting not just VOCs but the stuff itself is decaying and leaving microplastic dust in the air all around me

also, brave now has a feature to limit resource usage of tabs more effectively, i forget what it is because i enabled it and never get asked anymore and performance is definitely improved generally
some web apps are abhorrently excessively resource users tho, it's better to find alternatives to them anyway
for my money, if a tab is using more than 400mb (and brave also reports this in a tooltip on each tab) it's probably rubbish

brave has tab groups now, so you can organise those things a lot more cleanly as well, and firefox has still not implemented this feature, so, i understand what you mean but i have over 100 tabs tied to several different browser tab groups now and i don't get problems with that
i will just say that i'm not sure how much memory you need, maybe it is more, but 16gb of memory should be enough to run brave nicely on a linux installation

i've been using brave for about 4 years in a large part because of its sync system, which only exposes you to brave's servers to be an intermediary for your browser instances to synchronise configurations, using a key that only lives on your own devices, and is encrypted by this and they identify each other through the public key that is derived from it
it is faster than firefox, it doesn't nag you to enable DRM widevine DRM, and you can basically disable all of the shitcoin features of brave without nagging you either, though they are all enabled by default.
it has saved my bacon several times from losing my configurations, bookmarks and i don't really use the password manager that goes with it, though that is convenient too, just one instance on my mobile and one on my desktop and i never lose my web browser configs, and by that i mean all of the extensions are also synced up, and importantly, the 2fa that a lot of sites require, this is also synced, and you just have to have two instances, it can be just two computers, but the phone and desktop/laptop setup is very handy
mozilla foundation is a spook funded company, and their codebase is less well written than google's chrome browser engine, to the point, that the majority of apps that use browser engines are built on chrome engine
i don't like google, but it's so good even microsoft quit wasting their money maintaining internet explorer and now just use chrome engine as well
linux and mozilla have started to become a really big problem for privacy and stability... ever since linux kernel version 6 it's gotten steadily more inconsistent at supporting hardware, and mozilla browser is creepy, i mean really creepy, just open up a new instance of it on a new login and tell me what you think about their bleating declarations of caring about your privacy
while they nag you to use DRM, which essentially hands over full control of your browser engine to untrustworthy applications and servers

i finally had enough today of trying to get the developers of https://gioui.org to understand that the internal packages they have in their repo obstructs the reuse of their widget code
this is now at last remedied

with this, you can literally copy the `widget` directory into your own repo and fork it to do better and more things

this library is the most competent cross platform UI rendering library, it works pixel perfect on macos, windows, linux, android and ios, and has done so for about 5 years but nobody has built a proper fucking widget library for it, the one they have in there is abominable and shitty
there's no proper tooltips, there's no popup menus, there's barely anything
there is other work people have done to build these things and they are nice but they are similarly retarded, and now i can easily fix this problem, and build a proper fucking GUI for #golang
oh yeah, and did i forget to mention it can be used as a GUI library for web apps?

i had enough of mozilla when i was browsing nostr and people pasted widevine DRM using spotify links that blocked me from screenshotting my browser
instead i would get some random repeating sequence of colours instead of my own browser
and it would affect other tabs as well, it blocked me taking screenshots of my whole screen
this does not happen when you disable it. fine
but when you disable it, every time one of these preview links appears in your current app there is a snackbar that begs you to enable DRM
this is universal, librefox, firefox, and i'm sure all of them do this
the fact that you never heard of this before is because you never listened to someone who actually knows what is going on and got burned bad wasting time and frankly, nagging me to re-enable DRM is just beyond the pale
when i disable DRM video decoding on brave, or even chcrome, it never nags me
