That’s what clients can and should do, the api serves both
There is this one torture video that I'll never forget and would have preferred to unsee.
Yea the first time I saw this I was pretty surprised
Every nostr client should automatically react with the 👀 emoji on notes you've seen in the feed.
I'm joking.
the other thing it "quietly" does is use a cuban bitcoin mint as default, which will get any custodied wallet frozen. they recently merged a PR of mine that changes this, so if you already have routstrd installed and want to use a custodial lightning wallet, might want to update.
I'm a routstr fan; this is not a knock on the product, just a caution to US-based custodial wallet users.

when i was a kid and learned about folks like Stalin or Mao killing tens of millions of people i was like how can somebody do something so inhumane ?
now i wouldn't bat an eye at killing 95% of earth population. i have seen enough of these so-called humans. killing 95% of them would be like wiping dog shit off the sole of my shoe.

Shermy was a Peanuts character? I dont think that's right.
This is NOT how you're supposed to hike, in steel toed work shoes and jeans, but that was what I was wearing when I snapped out of it (I accidentally wore these home on Friday, leaving my daily driver shoes at work).
By "snapped out of it" I mean that I've been going through a nasty rough patch lately, living like a real piece of shit. Eating garbage, not exercising, drinking on weekends sometimes. Bear Market of the Soul vibes.
I suppose I could try to explain it away with the fact that my mother died in August but let's be real, this started well before then. I've become fat and lethargic over the past year and no doubt the new job I took last September has something to do with that, but it's no excuse. My wife's been going through a similar thing, but that's not my story to tell.
A couple hours ago I was hit with one of those slap-you-in-the-face, what-the-hell-are-you-doing-with-your-life moments. This is not the way. You need to wrench yourself out of this, and you need to be the pillar of strength that your wife can grab hold of to pull herself out of it too.
So I left the house and just started walking. Luckily there's a small mountain nearby in the middle of the city, so I'm doing a 14k loop that'll take me around the backside, then all the way up, then back down and home. It's a start.
I've been staring into the abyss for a long time without realizing it. Time to look forward.

What are the best Nostr desktop clients these days? Primal seems to have stagnated somewhat.

Emberfall Update:
- Added a lot of missing sounds
- New sound themes and dialogs in act 2 town
- Environment-aware footstep sounds
- Cleaned up all act 2 dungeons and caves so they are nice now
- Lots of VFX added throughout many places (not all though)
- Reworked mobile UI
- Ran extensive mobile optimization (probably more work needed still)
- Added rune and gem bags
- Added an intro cinematic to the game (sucks, but better than nothing)
- Reworked the storyline to move into act 2 town with all the quests shifting to new town
MORE TO COME
1. Outcamps
2. New towns
3. Improved storyline
4. More and improved vfx
5. Possibly rename the game to something else, not really feeling Emberfall... seems passive and weak.

The music industry has asked the EU to add yt-dlp, an open source video downloader, to its Counterfeit and Piracy Watch List. IFPI's submission even names the volunteer developers who maintain it. It also wants Cloudflare, GoDaddy and Verisign on the list, because apparently the company running .com is now a piracy concern.
LaLiga has gone after NordVPN, ProtonVPN, ExpressVPN and Surfshark over affiliate blogs it never names or links to. A Spanish court already threw out its last attempt to fine NordVPN.
The Commission insists the list makes no findings of legal violations. It just tells the world which lawful tools the entertainment industry would like to see gone...

Neat thing about Nymchat is that its iOS app could be banned by a country with Apple, but the PWA can still be saved through Safari and it functions almost identically to native app

Although there's events happening around me atm I decided to use my time asking Claude to compare elements of another nostr client to Plume.
I'm going to fix up the chat UI soon, but I was curious to see how I might improve the feed loading elements.
There's a couple of useful technical changes I can make, straight of the bat, correcting some inefficiencies.
It took seconds. Even if I knew what I was looking for and at, it wouldn't be done in seconds. AI is crazy cool.
