Every metaphor for a garden overlays onto life (and vice versa) because a garden is life. One of those lessons is that you are not a god... that no matter how well things are going, things can and will go wrong, and sometimes there is nothing you can do to stop them from happening... because you are not in charge. Nature is.

is mosaic virus. Nearly every plant species is susceptable to some variation of it. There is no treatment or prevention. It is carried in seeds and spread by bugs, tools, hands, direct leaf contact, even the wind. As a steward of nature, the only interventions are removing the sick plants from the garden, keeping bugs at bay, and practicing sanitary tending methods.
I experienced my first mass garden loss from mosaic 3 years ago, when I planted tobacco seeds acquired a random ebay seller. I watched as half my garden slowly, but quickly, died. Every morning, I could see how it was spreading from plant to plant. Everyday my garden became a little less vibrant. I didn't know what was wrong then, but I do now.
It seems that this year, I must have acquired some carrier green bean seeds from a different, unfamiliar seller. My beans are dying. There is a high probability that most of my garden will die very soon. I will remove the sick plants as they appear and I will tend my garden cleanly, but pollinators are going to pollinate and the wind is going to blow... and there is nothing else I can do but hope that some things make it through.

I took this photo yesterday when we found out. We were sitting there full of emotions, and when we realized it, our three cats were there with us at that moment.
The pregnancy test results indicate that she/he is only 3 weeks along.

GM bitchez. I've been busy. I started a nonprofit meant to preserve independent music recorded in my town.
I started ripping CDs from a local collection held at Humboldt Hot Air and thought, this shit needs to be preserved.
So I developed a plan. And even a manual. And I got permission from several bands to stream their music on my website humboldtmusicarchive.org
Only 37 albums up so far. Of which, I was able to glean about 20 emails. Surprisingly, only 4 of those were bunk. 5 responded already!
Someone heard about what I was doing and sent me a thumbdrive of >35GB of predigitized Humboldt music going back to the 80s. 💪
I know I shared the website before. But I was just messing around then. I now only stream by permission and have a rights policy. Lol. This shit's serious all-a-sudden.

Both are true.
🤔 its hard to fathom someone going through a calculus class and not grasping the philosophy or the necessity of philosophy for truly understanding it. Not that I'd claim "true understanding" - but the philosophy is a hell of a lot more interesting than the plug n chug. My chem professor misses no opportunity to shit on philosophy - there's some real antagonism going on there. I know she's a math person... I just don't get how the philosophies of Newton and Leibniz aren't blindingly obvious to her. Blows my mind... Well, anyways. Lots to do this weekend, and thinking about her silly comments isn't going to help.

In this place we encountered a gnomish woodwose. We surprised him running through the forest at a quick clip, disguised in business wear. With a faltering smile he responded to our greeting in neither English nor Italian but turned his eyes downward and kept on running.

If You Steal My Sunshine
Heavy metal covers of "pop" songs are one of my favorite things to search for. Don't ask why because I don't fucking know either.
Anyway, as I was saying, there are so many fantastic covers of tunes that have great bones but were written and/or recorded by artists who never owned a T-shirt with "Give Me Fucking OVERDRIVE!" on it.
But some artists (those who replace the tank of their toilet with a Marshall stack) fucking get it and sally forth to slay the gayness of tunes with potential but executed with girls in mind (no offence to the chicks who can throw an ax: think Lita Ford).
In almost all instances I can find someone who turned an otherwise "let's make fun of the kid who listens to this" song into "THIS IS AWESOME!" give me more.
Alas, I have run into one of the times where I can't so I turn to you guys for help.
"If You Steal My Sunshine" has great bones and is prime head bang material but it requires a full nutsack to execute and I can't find a metal cover of someone who piped guitars through 4 Mesa Boogie MKIIIs, a bass that bends space-time with fucking graviton wave fronts, and percussion that wrecks pacemakers in the old folks home four blocks away.
Closest thing I found was this guy 👇 but it's not strong enough.
Wanted: an actual full metal jacket to throw on what is otherwise a damn good tune . . . it just needs to be jacked! Jacked to the tits.

Things are just humming along on wss://spatia-arcana.com . We have fun, intelligent, and fascinating members on our little growing tree, our first content bot (thanks @npub1fhp…ds8n 💜), some chill chat groups, nostr edu reading materials written by members, a beautiful collective kind 20 gallery, a couple books (thanks @npub1m3x…a5sf 💜), many ngit repos (thanks @npub180c…h6w6 💜), _mostly_ highly informative btc notes, lots of humor, lots of nature, art, and esoteric notes... and there are so many different quality ways to explore and interact with various parts of the community now.
After realizing that I could actually run a Pyramid relay, I wanted SpArc to serve as an example of how awesome Nostr could be and, thanks to everyone who's gotten involved, it has far exceeded my expectations in a mere 7 months. I have an underlying feeling that this is only the beginning. 😊

If you can consider nostr as a sort of organism (and mycelium is a decent comparison):
what "material" does it ingest? (content, ideas, participants, structures, projects, monetary value?)
What can it digest easily, like food (data, participants, projects, structures, centralizing forces) vs accomidating foreign material (like a metal plate in place of bone, centralized silos, partial interoperbility with nostr)?
What does it produce? ( structures, companies, projects, more content, more connections?)
How does it breathe? (the influx and efflux of participants, the (dis)connections around users, identity and data)
answering these questions is one way to figure out how to _literally_ #grownostr

The ultimate game to win, and is very relevant to nostr, is not the win that "beats out the opponent"
The ultimate win, is when whoever identifies as "the other side" realizes there's nothing to beat, and that no one is _trying_ to beat them out.
"You were always welcome to play with us, but you chose to play by yourself. And that's always fine, there's never anything wrong with that if you don't like the rules. You are always welcome play your game with your own rules. But you know, it'd be a more exciting and fun game if we're all playing together."
Always a negotiation of what the conditions are. The negotiation evolves the game, it brings more players. Always some prodding and pushback, competitive banter, but always trying to bring more players, regardless of the alliance.
If it were The Final Game to win, maybe. Maybe you'd push for your side to win, and the other to lose at any and all costs, for the other side's destruction. But At All Cost games reduce and simplify ecosystems, they create monocultures by definition, and reduce robustness.
This isn't The Final Game, with finite outcomes. It's an Infinite game, just as serious. But the purpose is to keep the infinite game continuing, not to win and then end. You can win smaller, semi-high stakes games/tournaments within an infinite game, of course. But they're still in service of the larger game's continuation and evolution, and never as serious.
