Another thing that can get in the way is getting a crappy whip to start learning with. If your area is prone to wet weather, I'd say go with a nylon whip or similar over cow or roo hide. My favorite whip maker is Peter Jack, personally, if you want something from leather. A great starter would be one of his Stockman's whips (4)

The most common thing I see is people are too impatient to throw their crack. The cattleman's crack is the quintessential starter I'll teach, and most people are too early on the downstroke, not letting the whip touch the ground behind them before throwing that loop (myself included when I learned it).

Managed to catch a day of the LA Whip Convention this past weekend with a friend and had a lot of fun throwing leather. Took a workshop on whip tossing that I didn't initially plan to, and one on Australian whip cracking from Adam Winrich (holder of an insane number of world records). Still need to go through the DVDs Adam gave out. Other time up there that day was having fun working on technique and practicing.

I usually keep at least one fixed blade in the car along with a tomahawk. For carrying on your person, folding knives have a lot more leeway in CA for concealed carry than fixed blades (and counts as open carry when the pocket clip is visible. I can even legally carry my Cold Steel Espada XL (7.5" blade) most places because it folds.

Protip:
Don't photograph your keys, it's exceedingly easy to copy keys with some photo information.
My EDC is effectively:

- Kobalt folding box cutter

Yeah, being long-tail abnormal on sizing sucks. I've got a 38in inseam and a 36in waist, and most pants come in a 36in inseam at longest. On top of that, when tall and skinny it's difficult to find sizes long enough that aren't also parachutes. Not many manufacturers make something with the chest size of a typical US large with the length of a 2XL. If you like cargo pants in a BDU style, I know of a place that makes them custom for $48 a pair, but the shipping to Norway would likely suck.

The atmo question is easy to answer: electrical charge holds the atmosphere to the planet, and there's evidence suggesting gravity is also an electrical phenomenon. Even mainstream cosmologists acknowledge the auroras are electrical, though they had to be dragged into that kicking and screaming.
The eclipse shadow I'm pretty sure can be demonstrated with practical experiments with a large enough light emitter compared to a small object casting a shadow.

Even if you are somewhat consistent, there's the issue of having so many things that are interests, as there's so much more than the software writing profession. I enjoy things from gaming to weapons martial arts to blacksmithing, ballroom dance, lockpicking, and playing the ocarina, to name a few off the top of my head.

My local Thai restaurant in Kalifornistan has some great food, but there are certain dishes I'll be making at home. Need to go through all their curries, but what I've tried I remember being solid. Their phad thai was too sweet for my preference when I tried that recently, so that's a dish I'll be making at home like the tom yum.

Ketchup phad thai sounds wrong. 😆 I'll definitely try out using a paste, too, as well as trying to get something as close to what I ate at Nok's family restaurant in Bangkok as possible. Best phad thai of my life there, and a dragon to chase. If you're ever in Thailand, this is the place.

First time making Tom Yum in large portions, and it was a resounding success. Recipe serves one, so I used 12x the ingredients and one minor substitution for the chili jam the recipe names as optional (used same amount of Kikkoman Thai chili sauce). Math is ~2oz chicken = 1/3 cup to replace the shrimp, though I just used 2lbs for the 12x as a rough estimate. Only used 6 Thai chilis for the 12x batch, 3+ per serving is REALLY spicy for most. 2 is edge of my comfort.

Nope. There are plenty of religions as is that have gods that aren't human. Just look at the Hindu pantheon or biblical descriptions of angels for a couple easy examples. The notion of being "in the image of God" could also be taken metaphorically rather than physically, considering he's literally impossible to conceptualize as a human, being omnipresent.

For the fans of rum, Mekhong from Thailand is quite good. Managed to get a bottle over there I was able to bring back into the US, and will thoroughly enjoy that whenever I open it. Has a lovely caramel taste to it. Will have to see if I can acquire more later

To make the green onion garnishes, you just take a hollow piece of the green top, and quarter the last .5-1in lengthwise. You curl the "leaves" away with the back of your knife and then insert a bean sprout or sliver of pumpkin in the middle.

Not included in the cookbook were a couple of other fun tips to add to the presentation of the dishes. Chef Perm showed making a rose from a strip of mango peel (basically just peel half the mango in a single strip and roll it together), and edible garnishes that look like flowers made from green onion and using either a bean sprout or strip of pumpkin as the center of the "flower."

Those are the only ones that I was *unaware of before the trip.* I'd say Roti Sai Mai was one as well, but that's impossible to get outside Ayutthaya.
There's plenty I already knew of that I enjoyed there, and I'll be making plenty since I took a cooking class and the cookbook has recipes for every type of Thai curry from fresh or dried ingredients, Pad Thai, Tom Yum/Kha, a dish for each type of curry, several stir fry dishes, sticky rice with mango, and papaya salad.

There are two big flavors I was mostly unaware of before visiting Thailand:
Tamarind
Pandan
Stuff flavored with Pandan is delicious (similar to vanilla). It's a leaf the Thai use both for the green color as well as its flavor, and if the pandan/milk flavored taffy I found online is equivalent to the stuff I bought in Chiang Mai, I'm going to be very happy.
Whole dried tamarind flavored with sugar and chili is awesome, too. Will also be using tamarind in cooking later.

Gotta say, Asiana airways has the best airplane food I've experienced so far. My wife and mom in law were if anything overfull by the end of the 17hrs of flying. I also didn't photograph a breakfast sandwich that was included.

AGI is not coming next year. We're 50-100 years away from simulating a human brain in all its complexity that we're aware of (so far), and AGI would require at least that level of complexity.
If you're familiar with Virtual Intelligences from Mass Effect, more realistically we might get closer to useful VIs in a year or so, but that's a long way away from AGI.

Agreed. I feel like the bit about unions and the like neglects that the unions are just the corpo types with another veneer. The union will screw you over for their own ends as assuredly as the company they're ostensibly protecting you from.

If you're washing them in the same water as other dishes (like a dishwasher), lead and the like is going to leach onto other surfaces. I'll be replacing mine with ones that have the markings cast into the glass.

Yesterday I learned that any modern measuring cup with painted lines on it is going to leach lead and/or other heavy metals when you wash it. Guess I need to invest in measuring cups that have the lines as part of the glass instead of painted on.

It's almost as though it only takes understanding English grammar to get at the core statement of the right being guaranteed. If you cut off the preamble about militias, the right still stands as its own sentence, but the inverse is not true about the preamble.

Considering how stupid the stun lock can be in the campaign, I'm not surprised to hear that. Outside of maybe playing vs with friends who are interested, I'm not planning to use PvP, but that's me. Would be cool if there was a multiplayer campaign, but maybe we'll get something like that in the next one.
