Both are from events I will remember forever and made me fee like I was on the ground floor of something really important, just excited to contribute in any way possible. I have some follows that I ultimately would like to continue to follow and don't want to mute them, but they post probably about 100 notes a day and just pollutes my feed.
Not even sure % alone would solve the problem but it would be a step in the right direction.

I transitioned to #GOS recently, it is such a liberating feeling.
I took the additional step of never running Google Services Framework on my ‘owner profile’ and using only apps that are #FOSS or don't require GSF.
I have another profile for the occasions when I need to use such apps requiring GSF. This slight inconvenience is a good way of making me think twice about installing apps and which ones, if I do.
It’s definitely a journey with a fair few workarounds… for instance, I haven't found a good backup solution for data held by apps so I have installed Protonmail’s Drive which auto sync’s photos to the cloud.

What I find baffling is people still falling for the free speech meme on X.
I honestly think a lot of people will just blindly follow along. I don’t know anyone irl here nor on the Fediverse. Most people just don’t seem to value their digital capital that much.
I do think SM will dissipate, we’ve already seen that with Fedi/BlueSky/Threads but a lot of people seem to want the next big thing.

The trend to social media kyc fits perfectly with what I would guess is the slowdown or even slow death of social media (just imo).
Most people dip in and lurk, the content creators are still posting, they have careers and skin in the game, revenue /supplemental revenue sideshoots to preserve.
But if you had to kyc to even just lurk social media, I would *guess* it would be a very quick death of it.
The magical spell of social media and scrolling addiction would disappear overnight.

Left LinkedIn, left Facebook, left Instagram. Never started using Tiktok.
Using WhatsApp and Telegram only because of professional reason.
Reducing the use of X (Twitter). Will use Discord for only 8 weeks. Don't know anything about any other social media.
Reducing the use of YouTube and Google search but haven't find any reliable alternative yet.
Not because I hate them. In fact, I love them more than Nostr. I found most of these social media platforms pretty decent and usefull in many ways.
For example, Facebook was the first social media I used. I found a lot of good friends there, got a lot of knowledge and informations from different Facebook groups.
YouTube is still my first priority for a detailed To Do video about almost anything. Found all the Bitcoiner communities and all the other Bitcoin related things on Twitter first. In fact, Twitter was the place where I first got introduced to Nostr.
But every decission comes with a trade off; Most importantly an opportunity cost. When we use something or decide to use something, we take the risk of loosing the next best thing we could have instead. And by looking at the opportunity cost of our decision, we can have an idea of how good or how bad the original decision was.
From Fiat to Bitcoin, from Facebook to Nostr, this phenomenon applies to everything. when we accept fiat as money, we loss the opportunity of accepting Bitcoin, hence loss all the advantages of a far superior, more reliable sound money. But when we accept Bitcoin, we just loss the opportunity (?) of using a less reliable, far inferior fiat money or any other crypto that are not capable of providing all the advantages of Bitcoin any way.
Something similar can be seen in case of social media. When we use any traditional, centralized social media, we get some nice looking features, a fancy feeling, some nicely done UI and a relatively smooth experience. But in return, we gradually become a puppet of algorithms, unwillingly become a target of marketing gimmicks, a source of personal data and we also loss the opportunity of getting all the benifits of a totally decentralised protocol. Those "all the benifits" includes thing like sensorship resistance, which is a nice way of ensuring freedom of speech. And vice versa when we actually start using Nostr instead of all these social media platforms.
Of course nostr is not perfect and not yet capable enough to immediately replace all those platforms at once. but just look the trade off! I mean getting non-kyced verified ticks, not having the risk of personal data leak, not having to worry about getting banned, not having to be a puppet of algorithms, a target of advertising, a victim of server demage/hacking etc, just for a little inconvenience of using the nostr client apps/websites?
I don't think there is any logical explanation of not using nostr over other social media platforms, unless we consider being addicted to a certain social media platform (other than nostr because it doesn't have an addictive algo) as a "logical explanation".
I think in this meme the role is usually reversed, Where the dead battery guy is passing his last bar to the other guy with three bars.

My immediate concern is that for the majority of people having to install and learn multiple apps to use one service is probably overwhelming.
I would start in refactoring all possible push code out if amethyst into an agnostic package and build pushstr as optional for amethyst.

One of my close friends in Egypt is a writer and director for commercials. And he is near the top of his craft and industry: his commercials tend to be particularly memorable and effective domestically, and they win international awards in places like Cannes. Some of them are filmed in Europe.
The reason his commercials are so good is that they tend to be funny, and in particular tend to subvert an existing trend. Kind of like how people actually look forward to the creativity of Super Bowl commercials, his commercial campaigns are at like that level, where they are enjoyable to watch. Some of them feature celebrities and many do not, but what they have in common is that they are well-written, funny, memorable, and position the product well.
I really like that approach; making commercials might not be seen as the most sexy profession to many people and commercials in general are known to be annoying, but striving to be at the top of your craft and seeking to elevate the whole craft is very admirable.
As an example, celebrities often appear in commercials in Egypt, but rarely participate in any self-deprecating humor and the commercials basically aren’t very original or interesting. Like the American equivalent would be The Rock surrounded by women and holding up a Pepsi saying he loves it. And on social media here, people will often say, “oh, [insert celebrity] only did it to pay for his next house installment.”
For context, with a rapidly debasing currency, real estate is the main investment vehicle here, and people (ranging from the middle class to the wealthy) will pay for them in 3-10 year installments. A celebrity will buy some North Coast mansion as his third property, and so if he appears in a lame commercial people will say he’s only doing such a shitshow to keep making his installments.
So my friend gets asked to make a commercial for a financial service app that allows for more flexible real estate installment payment timing. Not the most exciting product. So he decides to subvert this trope and make a boring product memorable. He creates a set of four commercials, with a top Egyptian celebrity as the star in all four of them. In each commercial, the big celebrity is filming some terrible commercial that he doesn’t want to do in a really funny filming situation (overtly self-deprecating humor), and his agent reminds him he has to do it to make his next installment payment. For an American equivalent, picture The Rock dressed as Big Bird in a commercial, taking a break to get a drink while all sweaty and hating his day, complaining that agreeing to this was a bad idea, but his agent reminds him that he’s got an installment payment coming up next month, so The Rock begrudgingly puts the Big Bird hat back on and waddles back onto the set. And the commercials close by mentioning the app and how flexible installment payments make it so you don’t end up in this situation. The campaign was funny, memorable, went rather viral, good for the product, etc.
So for his latest one, a big Egyptian conglomerate wants him to design a commercial for a sports club, and sports clubs are very common around greater Cairo; it’s where a lot of people of all ages do sports, swim, eat, and hang out, while they also have pro football team or some other pro athletes as well. Some of Egypt’s weightlifting and track Olympians train at this particular one, so with the Paris Olympics coming up, the conglomerate wants to make an Olympics-themed commercial where the weightlifters come on screen and say they train at this club.
My friend points out that it’ll be very hard to get the Olympians for the commercial because they are in peak training mode right now. It’s the month leading up to the Olympics. And weightlifters and track athletes are not usually very well known anyway, so their impact might be overestimated (they aren’t like famous footballers). So his proposal was to instead get a well-known funny/charismatic celebrity to come on screen and say that the club’s facilities are so good that Egypt’s weightlifting team is based out of there, and the club wanted to have them in this commercial, but is too considerate to pull them out of training for an ad, since training is the most important thing for them rather than appearing in commercials right now, and so they got him (the funny/charismatic guy) to talk about it instead and he’s sorry since he knows he’s not as cool as weightlifters. It’ll be easier to film this month and get it out during the Olympics, and will be more memorable and impactful, is his argument. The type of thing people will share on social media, like many of his other commercials.
The conglomerate thought about it but instead just wanted the Olympians. But now they are running into all sorts of schedule issues because the Olympians are, in fact, too busy with training. Some of them are even out of the country training with the best coaches internationally in prep for this. So the conglomerate is scrambling to figure out what to do about the commercial to get it out during the Olympics and my friend is like, “Gosh, if only there was some other commercial concept we could be filing about it right now…”

Former PayPal CEO Peter Thiel has expressed doubts that the Bitcoin (BTC) price will rise significantly from its current level in the future.
The billionaire – who still owns "some" Bitcoin, but not as much as he "should have" – isn't sure where new buyers will come from now that Bitcoin already has an "ETF edition".

"I'm not sure if it will go dramatically up from here. We have the ETF edition, and I don't know who else will buy in the future," Thiel, a founder of Founders Fund, told CNBC on June 28.

Thiel previously said he was "underinvested" in Bitcoin in October 2021, when the leading cryptocurrency was moving towards its all-time high of $69,000, reached about three weeks later.
However, Thiel's Founders Fund has a pretty impressive history with Bitcoin, making its first Bitcoin investment in 2014 and realizing a $1.8 billion profit shortly before the market collapsed in 2022.
The Founders Fund then bought another $100 million in Bitcoin in 2023 when it was trading below $30,000.
Bitcoin no longer Cypherpunk?
Thiel revealed that Bitcoin hasn't developed as much towards Cypherpunk as he originally envisioned.
"Where I'm less convinced is the question of Bitcoin's ideological founding vision as a cypherpunk, crypto-anarchism, libertarianism, anti-government thing." 🏴☠️🗽

UTXO Management for Dummies:
If everyone pays you in quarters you’ll have to lug around a big heavy bag. It’ll also cost you more time to spend as you have to count quarters when paying. So ask for $20s or $100s as payment, or change your quarters into bills from time to time.

A UTXO stands for unspent transaction output. Don’t worry about those unnecessarily complicated words. Just use “UTXO” and understand the concept of what it is…

I see the models and series have changed a lot in two years. After spending a $1000 on headsets I really lucked out with this pair but they were $425. Depending on your platforms the similarly priced new models look like they’d be comparable. And they are still being smart with their battery options. No built in or proprietary batteries. Just two rechargeables that you can find on alibaba easily.

We're actually going to have more functionality than GD. It doesn't contain a Nostr client or a code editor. The only field you can even type into is the commit field because the only database it uses is git, whereas we have relays.
Have to go to the GitHub website (if they haven't banned you, LOL Microsoft) or open an IDE to do almost anything outside of git commands.
